Title: When is a duty free shop, not duty free!
Post by: alfie on 02 October 2010, 21:01:27
As some you will know my son has been on his travels lately,He knows that my tipple is Southern Comfort.
So bess his cotton socks,he bought me a bottle in the DUTY FREE at Paris CDG,nowthe cost of the 1lt bottle is 28.44 eur, thereis a TVA(tax)? of 19.60% which is 5.56 eur.
How can they charge you tax in a duty free shop,He was  on a flight from anon eu country,South Africa Paris was a enroute stop over on the way to Heathrow.
You can buy 70cl of Southern Comfort in supermarkets here for around £15.Yet the duty free in CDG charges £30.36 GBP for 30cls more than the cost  of 1 bottle bought locally.
Alfie.
At this moment in time,I have a small sample in in front of me.

Simple, he was on a an EU-EU hop, his boarding card will have said london as next stop.

He should have bought it in Africa.

I must say though, i go out of my way to avoid CDG as its a totaly shite airport and sadly full of Air France Chance flights

I used to get duty free on my Norway trips, otherwise it was external to the EU that you got it

He was lucky then, Air France are hopeless and when something goes wrong you end up with a load of headless frogs running around shouting 'stinking english pigs'.....I kid you not!
