Topsy-turvy seasons seem to predominate recent years. :'(

What ever happened to the old days when there were 4 distinct proper seasons?
Global warming?

There never have been four distinct seasons, except in people's clouded memories. I remember as a lad being taken to the seaside for a weekend in October as we experienced an Indian Summer. I also remember a very wet Christmas day when the temperature was 55f (13c).
Have a look at this link, and you'll find that what we call "odd" weather is as nothing compared to what our ancestors experienced! Click on any date range and be prepared to read some amazing things!

The climate is a bit more temperate here cem but we do a lot of 'swimming' here in the UK, usually fully dressed though; which isn't half as much fun as the 'other' sort. ;D ;D ;)

When I was a kid, the summer holidays were normally booked because the temperatures were better, and it was generally warm and sunny. My birthday is in Oct, and I was always in a jumper then, as it was colder. the "seasons" all seem to run into one now, with "summer" days in the winter, and cold, wet, dark days in June and September.
Dunno, but it just "seemed" different, then.

The key word is "distinct", Cem. Seasons can and do change gradually, or sharply. Additionally, individual seasons can be warmer, colder, wetter, drier than the "expected norm"- thus blurring the transition even more. :y

When we first came to Spain, one of the old guys in the village told us that our area (inland) has very distinct seasons and that the change always occurs within a few days at the same time EVERY year - roughly with the dates we were taught in school.
I was very sceptical however he has been right 4 times per year every year Like Cem says it is just like someone flicking a switch. Very welcome too going from endless sun and heat of Summer to cooler Autumn.
