Phone rings I answer 'Hello'
Phone 'Am I speaking to Mr ........?'
Me 'Who's calling?'
Phone 'BT, as you are an existing landline customer, we can offer a fantastic deal on upto 20Mb of broadband, who is your existing supplier?'
Me 'Can't get 20Mb round here'
Phone 'How much do you get?'
Me 'Just over a Mb'
Phone 'It says here your area can receive upto 2Mb, who's your supplier, and how much do you pay?'
Me 'If you know I can only receive upto 2Mb, why did you offer me upto 20Mb?'
Phone 'Who's your supplier and how much do you pay?'
Me 'That's my business, if you'd been honest with me at the begining, I might have listened to what you'd got to say, I'm afraid I'm not interested, goodby'

The phone rings about 5 times a day at the moment with salespeople offering this and that, thank God for caller display...although as soon as they start talking, I say, 'No thanks' and just put the phone down
The missus however, finds it very hard to be that rude and ends up having to say a polite 'no' about 15 times before they get the message. I have no such qualms ;D

register with the telephone preference service sorts the calls out 9/10 times :y

That's what i do. I put mine in the kitchen & close the door ;D
I don't get many companies ringing me, not sure why ::)

your best bet is to politely ask to be removed from their calling list - they are legally obliged to honour your request.
With TPS, and that statergy we get virtually nothing
(all we do get is sky's 'partners' offering extended warrantys, different partner every time, and existing customer so neither of the above work well.)

Best is to lead them on for a good 10mins until they finally realise that your wasting their time!!!!!!

I registered with TPS years ago....I rarely get cold callers....you will always get a few companies that ignore TPS....but then i dont answer the phone....if its a 'withheld' or a number i dont recognise.....if its important they will leave a message :y

So did I and I also finished with BT years ago. A while back started getting cold calls from BT trying to woo me back. When I explained to caller line registered with TPS told doesn't apply to BT. This happened twice - in both cases logged date & time and got numbers. Reported BT to TPS - eventually TPS contacted me to report BT had been fined!!

I'm TPS'd, but still get lots of (particularly daytime) calls from the likes of Kitchen's Direct etc, who I keep asking to have myself removed from. Cheesed off with constantly reporting to TPS, seems they do sod all.
Also, seems to be a spate of automated calls from a phone company (nowhere in msg does it say which one) and a set of lawyers (again, no company mentioned). Being automated, you cannot call them a bunch of ****

Found out the other day that with TPS your meant to renew it every year?? This is what one of the call centres was saying?? Not sure how right this is!!

After the 20th call (yes, 20th) in 4 days from a call centre in Delhi somewhere I took the phone down to the spare bedroom and gave the poor women the biggest load of abuse I could muster... She told me all indignantly that she didn't have to listen to that kind of language and would be removing my details from the calling list...
I replied with a polite Thank You, it's only taken 20 calls to get the message across! ::)
It worked though!!!! ;D ;D

Ohhh and the last time I let rip and ranted at a sky drone ( I was working in the car at the time) who was selling warranty's....I really let rip :-[ went in later...the sky box had broken.
I cant help wondering if it was coincidence or not :-/

I keep an unlisted number and use an answering machine to vet calls before picking up.
On the odd occasion when I'm obliged to supply my number, I give a moody one.
As a matter of fact now that I've dispensed with my personal cell-phone, I would do the same with the land-line if I didn't need it for work, Sky and the security systems.
As a matter of fact the less I have to deal with the type of knuckle-dragging mouth-breathers who seem to be abound in the population at large, the more I like it.
But then I'm a sad baastad who's best avoided anyway. :y :y

About 3 weeks ago I got bombarded with calls from TalkTalk, my current line and calls package suppier. I eventually listened to what they had to say, and in the interests of saving very large amounts of money, I agreed to buy their broadband sevice. I also specified to the sales person that I wished to avail myself of their "call services" booster, which would allow me to continue using call divert and call waiting. I was assured that caller display was part of the broadband package, and I specifically stated that I did not want the 1571 voicemail service, as I prefer to use my answering machine.
The order confirmation arrived. No call services included. I phoned up and complained - they will put the order right, but could send me a new order confirmation.
Then my caller display disappeared and I got put onto 1571. I rang and complained - they will put it right with 24 hours.
They didn't. Then my welcome pack arrived - no mention of call services. I rang and complained. They guaranteed it would be put right.
It wasn't. I rang and complained. Them - sorry, it can't be put right, as we are in the process of providing the requested services. Me - put it right now, or don't bother with the order. Them - OK we'll guarantee it'll be fixed in 24 hours.
It wasn't. Then the router arrived. I rang and cancelled the order. I told them to send me a reply paid bag to send the router back in, as I wasn't going to spend my money on it. I told them to get the services restored by yesterday, or I would cancel my direct debit and find an alternative line supplier.
As of 10 seconds ago, the services were not restored.
The sad thing is that, having gone completely deaf, I can't call the head office and make my feelings known to someone in authority. >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Anyone who tells you that is completely and utterly full of brown smelly stuff. I tried to reregister my phone once after 14 months and it wouldn't let me saying I was already registered :y

I had a call from BT Mumbai about five minutes ago, trying to flog me BT vision. They got the answer they always get: BT do phones, sky do television.

Remember...the TPS system does not apply to foreign countries, which is why Bombay Central keep calling from BT. Applies to any overseas calls :y
