-
He managed 95 years not a bad innings RIP Sir Norman
-
How sad :'(
-
One of the greats from when comedy was harmless fun, without a hint of vitriol.
Not many left now, but I bet he's falling over the clouds right now.
RIP Norman, God Bless You.
-
A sad loss, Many an hour of fun watching him in my younger days..... :y he had a good innings.....RIP
-
Met him briefly at Belfast city airport in 2000. He was exactly the same in real life as on screen. I was walking behind him, but knew it was him because of that walk.
R.I.P. Sir Norman, thanks for all the childhood laughter.

:( No more "Mr Grimsdale! Mr Grimsdale!" :(
-
I used to deliver his paper(no i can't remember what he read) He was a grumpy old so & so in real life but his son Nicky used to come out to the village rec. & play cricket with us. One Christmas i swapped my tip (£3) with the bin mens tip (£5) They were all left in a built in hole in the wall at the gates. To put the £2 difference into perspective i was in my early teens then & 20 Rothmans etc were 40p. £1 would buy you 4 pints.
This was in the mid/late 70's in West Chiltington, West Sussex where the parentage still live. Memories!!! :)

OMG! :'( I've just come across this & now I am genuinely gutted! Norman was my all time Favourite from being a snotnosed primary school kid to the runny nosed old git I am now! He was one of those Entertainers you either Loved or Hated, but you couldn't ignore him because he got under your skin as soon as you saw him for the first time! :) I think I got my love of the Royal Navy from watching his antics in The Bulldog Breed :y I can just see St. Peter stood by the Pearly Gates shouting PITKIN!!!! ;D :'(

A sad day for british comedy, loved his films as a child. RIP.
-
Sad news indeed - I'm sure everyone will remember that voice;

The reason that I remember "Dont laugh at me cause Im a fool" so well has a funny little story behind it.
There is a live in centre for the seriously disabled near here and about 20 years ago Norman was the star guest at the annual fete there.
Later in the evening, after the fete, a friend of my father in law was in the local pub and he spotted Norman in there. The chap concerned was a northerner and a bit of a character, not backward in coming forward. He went over to where Norman was sat and started singing the song. Norman stood up beside him and joined in, and they gave the pub full of astonished onlookers a full rendition of the song. Priceless. :)

How sad, I used to ache with laughter watching his films and himself on stage, hope they show a lot of his stuff on TV.

Yep, but whilst both seem to have that love them or hate them "marmite effect", dont think Lee Evans comes even close to Norman Wisdom. Some of his stuff I found just irritating after a while but I have fond memories of watching him as a kid and ,undoubtedly, some of his routines are classics. Still, a good innings as others have said, and a man who made a lot of people laugh so another sad passing.
-
one of the true great physical comedians of the last century - Charlie Chaplins' favourite clown - you can't say more than that :y
-
i am really gutted to hear this news i think he was a true british comic ''LEGEND'' pure genius :'( :'(
-
Charlie Chaplins comment was "I like Norman Wisdom, he makes my belly laugh"
He did mine, too.
RIP old friend, cos you were everymans friend and funnyman.
-
I always enjoyed him. It's strange how some people can make you laugh over such simple things.
RIP Norman.
-
Very sad indeed. :'( At 95 he didn't have a bad innings.
Loved his films and slapstick humour and surprisingly, his biggest fans were in Albania!! :o Apparently, his films were the only films the communist government allowed to be shown from the West and he had something of a superstar status there.

Never did like that ginger bas*ard much... ::) ;)
-
I was taken to see one of his films when I was a kid...I saw it again not so long ago....it looks so dated now, and special effects were nowhere like today....but it is still vivid in my mind when he was in the Navy and was put in a divers suit, which expanded and finally went off like a baloon, the audience in the Odeon went ballistic with laughter ;D ;D ;D
Sad to see him pass on :(
-
It's very sad to hear that he has gone - he was more or less the last survivor of his generation of entertainers. He was always on the radio and television in the fiftes and sixties, and he bought a lot of pleasure to a lot of people.
Sad to say, I never found him remotely funny then, but he was in a television documentary about old age a couple of years back, and, to my great surprise, I was very impressed with him as a person.
-
He was also a decent straight actor, saw him in an old episode of "Dalziel and pascoe" recently, where he played an old soldier , gave a good performance .
