Reminds me of when we were in Belgium, a few years back, we ordered Steak & Chips, my mate sprinkled the sugar shaker all over his chips, we all fell about laughing, then the waiter came over and said 'You taking the piss out of me', which made us even worse.

I often see people complaining about being badgered by telephone cold callers. I can't imagine why that should be. If you don't want to listen to them, just say you're not interested and put the phone down.
For years now, I've found that exactly the same technique works when anyone attempts to engage me in a conversation about Big Brother, X Factor or Strictly Come Dancing. It even works when there is no telephone involved: the modified technique is to let your eyes glaze over and then pick up the nearest piece of printed matter and glance vaguely at it, even if it's a Mills & Boon.
To be honest, I can't be bothered with any of these reality shows. :(
I'm off to get a snack, the I'm going to settle down and watch The Apprentice - oops... :) :) :)

I read somewhere that the top 40 charts is almost strangled by Cowell these days and most of the artists are
pimped managed by him.

I'm very proud to say that I couldn't name one top 40 artist. :y

Funnily enough, I've got a couple of cold sausages in the fridge that I was contemplating putting in a sandwich for my supper. But now you've reminded me of what tonights episode is about, I think I'll give that a miss. Cheese and tomato would be better. :)

Not all of them are terrible :-[

I've got no problem with the Apprentice, Dragons Den etc. There is a point to it & it can be entertaining viewing...(if i happen to catch a repeat on a weekend duvet day) but i would'nt mong out on the settee & watch it after work.
As for Pap ego idol/can't believe i'm not famous & all the related bilge, i admit to enjoying the first auditions where the deluded are binned off with bags of abuse to thier sobbing stupid families. Worst thing is those who've won have had thier brief 15 mins of fame & are still talentless are an insult to real music & will soon be forgotten. Cowell & Walsh are simply pathetic & thier whole existance is pointless as are those who sit down & actually watch such drivel. You must be sadly lacking something in life.
I might show a modicum of interest if Holden, cole & minogue were to decide any Stewards enquiry with a bikini wrestle in baby oil. Maybe the first thing worth watching? ::)
-
My local papers web site has gone mad over a useless girl on Xcraptor, noone likes her and the web site is getting slagged off!
I can't be bothered to watch much TV - rather do gaming.
-
I had little choice but to be in the room when it was on last weekend. I had forgotten how appalling it is. The day Cowell was born - The day the music died.
Not a shred of artistry or genuine talent between the lot of them. Mummy and daddy spent a few quid on sending them to stage school, which gives them some sense of entitlement to be a living legend by Christmas.
Buy a Transit van, travel the length and breadth of the country gigging in the pubs and clubs for 5 years, learn your craft, find out if you have any real talent - then think about making your first album.
Rant over. ::)

totally agree Albs :y what I find ironic is that X-Factor is stifling talent not finding it, it says "don't write songs, don't learn an instrument, don't be creative in anyway - just let us mould you into some identikit popster that we can package and sell to the gormless masses like a block of processed cheese" and all these songs the acts use....where does Cowell et al think they come from I wonder? :(

<Crusty old get better left in a darkened room and prodded with a stick every now and again mode On>
Television programmes like this simply use the lowest common denominator in their quest for ratings success - and that is to provide cheap and uninvolved entertainment that doesn't require much thinking from the viewer.
It allows the legion of brain-dead, glued to their televisions, to experience (vicariously) a world made supposedly important by those wasters more intent with making money and accruing 'fame' than anything else.
Bah!!
<Off>

What's the X Factor :-? ;D
It's another word for "Simon Cowell's cash cow"

Personally Nige, I'm one of those who do hate it but you can't help knowing so much about it because the media are forever throwing down your throat. For christ sake it even makes the front page of The Sun on occassions!! ::)
-
My missus is hooked on it. if its on im outa there! ;)
-
this is the joys of being single and having the tv all to myself, i dont have to watch crap like the x factor or any other of these awful reality / entertainment tv shows :y :y
-
There were even talking about it on Radio 4 the other day. >:(
Don't watch it myself but according to the report I heard apparently they have decided to dredge up some of the acts rejected in previous shows. Sounds like a desperate measure to dangle another carrot in front of the audience to prop up a (hopefully) dying format fro another couple of episodes.
Load of drivel.

From what I've gleaned - by not watching this tripe - I can tell you that, by not watching this tripe, you have preserved your sanity and have rendered yourself unsullied by it. :y

Without wanting to play devil's advocate too much but I think there's a place for talent shows. They do sometimes unearth some brilliant singers who may otherwise have never become well-known because they were simply unable to do the years of gigging round pubs & clubs etc. It's the relentless load of vacuous guff that is shoved in your face when that strange Cowell bloke fires up the PR machine to get the viewing figures going and his premium rate numbers coining it in. Besides, I don't like that Cole woman. Eats cheese & onion crisps in bed and blows off like the Queen Mary coming into dock. I mean, it's bad enough when yer nan does it but at least you can blame the dog.
I do quite like it when the person/band that doesn't win goes on to have a better career though. ;)

Cheese & onion? How uncivilised.
