Commuting is getting harder now, there are a lot more people who drive slowly like 25mph on a arterial 30 limit road (when everyone used to do 33 on the speedo type).
On ordinary roads 40 is very common, the 50 drivers seem to have disappeared.
And they are also getting aggresive with it, I get one particular slowy pull out in front of me at least once a fortnight then get funny when I pass them. I think it was a Honda Jizz.
I did have to follow a slow Diseasel Volvo earlier this week but when I passed him a puff of smoke came out of the exhaust - bit too late when I was passing him.
aghhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Yep.. it does feel like people are getting slower, and slower.. although I do remember the 40-mile-an-hour gang members were pretty common even 10 years ago when I lived in Yorkshire .. you know the ones; 40mph in a NSL, 40mph in a 40, 40mph in a 30... they drive me nuts!

I hate old people on the road, they're slower and more frustrating than anybody. I was doing 15 mph behind one the other day, he was taking the mini-roundabouts super-wide and stopped at each one even though it was clear (pet hate) and then pulled over without indicating >:(
Whenever you see someone doing something really stupid on the road, it's usually a biddy ::)

IMO there aren't any drivers stereotypes anymore, there is good and bad everywhere, generally more bad than good though! Having said that, I think taxi drivers are particularly bad, with bus drivers not far behind them, then all these home delivery vans, the big white ones with the green arrow on the side.

Martin - you should try to be more patient with those poor creatures who are nowhere near your equals. Not everyone is fortunate enough to drive an absolute flying machine, and most of them certainly dont have your abundance of natural driving talent to make best use of it if they did. :)

I hate the tailgaiters sniffing right up my exhaust when I'm doing 80 going past a line of traffic......wait a sec - you want me to slow down, pull in, let you pass, come out, then accelerate back up to 80 because what? your life is more important and your time is more precious? well buddy you've proved that isn't the case by buying a convertible Audi as I can see you have no soul and contribute nothing ;D
OK it was one guy yesterday :y
odd thing is - he was happily sitting at 70 until my sh1tbox went past :o :y

I've noticed that a lot of people accelerate when you cruise past them on the motorway.. I used to think it was me - no cruise control in the MR2 so I thought 'well maybe my speedo isn't accurate and I'm not really holding a steady speed' but no.. cruise on, set to 80, nicely cruising past someone until you get alongside and then oh, hello, you want to do 80 too now? ::)
Drives me bonkers!

we have a lot of polish at the local distribution place, i canonly assume the driving test over there isnt very hard, or they are kn**kerd after a day at work, they never look before pulling out into the road, and then do 25mph.

Old & Putrid folk have all the time in the world to go as slow as they like, but in reality they have very little time left ::)
A few months back i saw an old gent in a Rover 400 going at around 10mph in a 30 zone with a guy in a Discovery right up his chuff, you could see the frustration on the Disco driver's face, the old gent had both hands on the wheel & was looking straight ahead, he wasn't gona be pushed into going faster ;D ;D
The question is though, who's the biggest liability, the old gent or the other driver :-/

its the idiots on the left of you at a roundabout who decide to cut across you and go right. the verbaql that comes out my window is breathtaking ;D ;D

I'd be wary of assuming that a puff of smoke from a diesel means it's too late for them to keep up / out run you.... if you look at some of the stats for turbo diesels they could give quite a fair few petrols a run for their money......
-
This problem will only further grow!! :'( :'( :'(
Remember, there are now more people over 70 years of age than ever before, and them as a percentage of the population is going to get ever greater!! ::) ::) ::)
Still, isn't fun when you face that 'challenge' in front of you, and you then blast away with the V6 roar (of course all within the speed limit and on a clear road!! ::) ::) ::)) :D :D :D :D :D ;)

Unfortunately I'd have to agree with you there as much as i don't want to. The mid range and grunt in some turbo ds is just amazing it nearly rips your face off, especially when people cheat, I mean get them chipped!
But, driving a manual they might have the edge over my auto elite keeping the turbo at spool, until my multi ram kicks in and it's take off time! Even on dual carriageway roundabouts I surprise people, pulling away massivley from them as the beast just eats roudabouts! It handles brilliantly, I'd rather keep the elite than the mv6. I'd never have a diseasal!

I think your contradicting yourself there mate >:(
And, of course, you have first hand experience of my driving ::) ;)

At work we have a Discovery (for towing the big stuff). It has a 3.0 V6 diesel with twin turbos & goes like :o :o For a weighty vehicle, it's no slouch :y

My Dad is 84, and thank God he doesn't now!! ::) ::) ::) :D :D :D
He was a poor driver when younger, but then came a series of accidents and near misses.........................!!! :o :o :o :o

i had a heartstopper the other day when a van pulled out slowly but suddenly infront of me from a left side road to go in the same direction as me while i was doing 40 in a 40, i had to swerve to the other side of the road and overtake to avoid him, his van was a foreign van, left hand drive, so at the angle he was at before he pulled out, there's NO WAY he could have even seen whether anything was coming, he basically just took a gamble!

I was already up to road limit as I had dropped back to enable a quicker overtake 8-)

Tonight I caught up with one on the bypass and it effed around at the roundabout and in wrong lane - end result I was turning off and only a few feet behind.
Another car followed me back tailgating me and had a go saying he was a cop - I have emailed the Police to check if he was.
I let him know his tailgating was a lot more dangerous - mine was just slowie slowing down a lot more than they should and I caught up.

I changed my commute about 2yrs ago due to my average speed over 4000 miles dropping below 30mph. Remember, I live near the M1/M40/A43, so it should be much higher.
My average speed is now 39mph (over last 6000 miles), but my commute is 10 miles a day longer :(

It's funny, my gay coloured Omega has a magnet on the back too.
My Green Omega, with heavily tinted windows, nobody but dickheads in Saxo VTS' and Corsa SRi's wanted to play.... in this Champagne coloured Mig, every character* and their cousin wants to have a pop.
I can sit in the outside lane of the motorway at 90-100-110, and you can guarantee some arsehole will be sat up my chuff flashing their lights. The Green Mig, they used to let me get on with it, even at 70-80MPH.

It's a shame but fun on the public roads is hard to find - all frustration now, usual cause, too many people out there and bad driver education.
I enjoy a longish drive solo - gives me a chance to get my thoughts in order, but commuting - not if I can possibly help it.
Fortunately I can usually hop on the bike and ride to work - and usually get off the bike happier than when I started.
