Title: Spanish Road works 'elf and safety
Post by: Varche on 08 October 2010, 12:49:02
Had to laugh. Last night went out to get more cement powder. Was confronted by this in the middle of some S bends. No warnings in either direction. Just a huge pile of gravel, a water butt and a concrete mixer. Couldn't see any sacks of cement!

One good thing is that we have very low crime rate here in the deepest countryside. Everyone knows everyone else. Any strangers would be "noted". That is missing in big chunks of Britain IMO.

Needless to say the mixer etc was still there this morning :y

Many years back working at a place on Slough trading estate someone stole our fire safe, an impressive task in itself but all the more so when you realise it was done during our lunch break :D

I reckon Slough is fast approaching Liverpool skill wise!

 ;D ;D

I heard of people skip diving on various trading estates around Slough/Bracknell/Reading back in the dot-com boom times, as people were turfing out old mainframes at an alarming rate; and some of those had plenty of precious metals inside.. they weren't exactly light or mobile, though!

This reminds me of a story the plumber (the one responsible for the hot water tank in my drive ;)) told me - apparently he was on a job for an office maintenance company who'd ripped the insides out of an office to re-fit it.  The skip they'd hired was piled high with office junk and they figured they were going to have to hire another skip so they could have a 'level load' for the skip hire company..

They all knocked off on Friday, came back on Monday to find...

Every single piece of metal gone from the skip - but not only that.. they'd emptied the skip, dismantled everything, and then refilled the skip with all the wood & crap they didn't want perfectly neatly so it was a level load.

Saved the fitters a job  ;D ;D

Went out for another 125 kg of cement and guess what. The two guys had used that pile up. A lorry had just delivered another load just 10 more feet up the road, again in the middle and you guessed it. No advance warnings. Fantastic. :y
