Title: Disappointed with police response
Post by: Robski on 05 October 2010, 12:56:17
Right here goes, yesterday at about 5pm I was upstairs sorting my teenage sons computer when I noticed a car coming down the road,Id never seen this car in our street before,as the car turns the corner I notice this guys got his pants round his knees and hes pleasuring himself(bear in mind Im upstairs so can see straight in through passenger window),did I really see that Im thinking,I then notice the car again coming back down the street yes I wasn't seeing things he definatley was jerking the gherkin,so I goes get my phone to get a pic of this wonker if he passes again, sure enough he does and I get him with the phone and ring 999 and report what I have just seen,we'll get someone to the area.I then went and informed all the parents in the area.I went and check my security tape which is trained on my car and I have this wonker on the tape but with it been timelapse it jumps 10secs at a time and i cant get the footage to pause where it can be seen what he is doing. This happened at betwwen 5pm and 5:30pm,no police turned up or even patrolled the area,I then had a call from the police at 9pm saying they were busy and could they make an appointment to see me on(wait for it)Wednesday evening.I find this truely disgusting that some wierdo is driving about doing this and the police are doing nothing(just hope he tries his luck tonight a street full watching for him)

I think they'll say that they can only act if the Bishop makes a formal complaint.

 ;) ;D

I can understand your disappointment.  There are arguments for and against (like if the first chance to get a PC there is 10 minutes it will be over).  There do seem to be steps towards accepting complaints from the public and visiting baddies on the strength of it, but that is fraught with problems.

I take it you have a Reg No for Mr Plod?

Join the club! I've got countless episodes ( I live in Sunderland! ), where the police have proved themselves to be utterly useless, by amongst other things, not turning up to serious incidents.

I don't bother ringing now, I genuinely think it is more constructive to bang my head off a brick wall! That's not me using a cliche either, it's true!

As the urgency of the issue had passed without any satisfactory police response (to you) I would be straight down to the nick to make a formal complaint.

An issue where the police response seems far from adequate needs to be investigated further so, following your complaint to police, I would then get in touch with your local press and finally with your MP.

If the police are too busy to attend a call of this type I would need to know what they were doing.

The public can only have confidence in the system of law enforcement when the police are actually on the streets doing the job they’re meant to.  If they're not, then we need to know the reason why.

This is the natural consequence of politicisation of the senior management structure of the force as a whole - now that ACPO (Association of Chief Police Officers) seems to have an increasing role in shaping overall strategy - and the tendency to gravitate towards policing by proxy through over reliance on a civilian cadre of quasi police officers and technology. (Thanks in particular to the last Labour government)

I could caution you about disseminating details of this incident further and I would especially advise against posting any information – by any means - that would lead to the identification of the driver or of the vehicle as this may prejudice any future legal action.

While I understand your motivation Martin, I would advise against any of the above courses of action being taken.

I still get the feeling the Police will totally ignore it :(

They shouldn't be allowed to Martin - it's their job and it's up to everyone who is dissatisfied with the standard of service offered to complain about it.  I certainly would.

Round here it is usually "not my job" however last time I used them was to warn off an abusive LPG installer - they did sort that out for me though :y

make sure you do 31mph on the way to the police station - you'll be assured of plenty of instant response then
