The tories/lib-dems have started to use the axe, 300 jobs to go at the Passport office in Newport, the only Passport office in Wales.
If this is a taste of things to come ,God help us.

Yes Alfie, just heard about it!
It is certainly the shape of things to come, and far worse I'm afraid :'( :'( :'(

Terrible, and where would we go for new passports now?

And this is before the spending review !!! Don't forget the civil service was already on a shrinkage programme before this -- the next round to be announced in a couple of weeks will be on top of those losses.
As I have oft said before, it won't be the jobs at the top that go (the ones we don't need and take the lion's share of salaries and pensions!!)

Well, if it's the only passport office in Wales, you can't go anywhere, can you? ;D ;D
It's a cunning plan to keep you where you belong.....Wales ::)

Well we do charge you to enter Wales.via the Severn bridges,we can't afford toll booths on all roads,so we charge only on our one main motorway.
It don't cost nothing to leave thro.

They have snipers at the end of both tunnels for any vehicle displaying any hint of Welshness. ;D
If you get passed them, the passport office staff have instructions to make you wait until the office is closed. ;D

As reported by the Journal, Mohamed Mimoun grabbed his sheep, took a number and realized he was in for a two-hour wait. Even worse, en route to the slaughterhouse, he was stopped by a cop and fined for having the sheep in the trunk of his Toyota. By law, the sheep is supposed to ride in the rear passenger seats. Baa, baa, back seat.
On which note, let us turn to the gay sheep. Apparently, researchers at Oregon Health and Science University and Oregon State University have been experimenting with ovine hormonal balances to persuade homosexual rams of the error of their ways. It seems they've had "considerable success" with injecting hormones into the rams' brains. Suddenly the lads are playing the field and crooning a couple of choruses of "Embrace me, my sweet embraceable ewe."
Gay groups (human gay groups, that is: Even America does not yet have a 24/7 gay sheep lobby group with offices on K Street) are not happy about this. Martina Navratilova, the nine-times Wimbledon champ, has called for the project to be abandoned and for scientists to respect, as the Sunday Times put it, "the right of sheep to be gay". Many of us can sympathize. The poor old sheep gets it coming and going. If he's going to end up bleeding to death while turned toward Mecca, he ought at least be able to choose his orientation in the run-up to it. Might as well be hung for a ram as for a ewe. Surely a sheep should be able to celebrate his own sexuality without a lot of crazed ovine eugenicists strapping him to a gurney and shooting him the hetero-juice. As they sing in the first act finale of "La Cage Aux Folles": Life's not worth a damn/ Till you can say, hey, world/ I ram what I ram.

You are right there Maria! :y :y :y :y
Once you are away from some of the rougher housing estates in Newport, Cardiff, Llanedeyrn, Merthyr, etc, and especially that estate on top of a ruddy mountain (how stupid and terrible for the residents!!), Tonypandy (I used to call it Alcatraz!) and out up the Valleys to Bargoed, out north of Swansea and along the Heads of the Valley road, it can be beautiful 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) Then you have the whole of the Gower Peninsula :-* :-* :-* :-* 8-) 8-)
Yes, just like England, Wales has its bad parts, but an awful lot of very beautiful parts. I miss it, even with the roaming sheep! :D :D :D ;)

Oi ! ;D ;D
Merthyr's a bit rough, but once you get out of the town, there's truly beautiful countryside right on your doorstep, with some great terrain in the Brecon Beacons for mountain biking and walking.
It's true, however, that most of the residents of Merthyr itself don't appreciate or use it (unlike me)

Yes JC, but specifically I meant the Gurnos Estate.
That is where I once witnessed the locals talking in front of one of my Welsh (Townie) managers, running him down in Welsh, and him understanding every word as, I understand unusually for a Townie, of what they were saying!! Most amusing, especially his reaction, in fluent Welsh, which of course I couldn't understand, so thank goodness had no reason to suspend him from his duties!! :D :D :D :D :D :D ;)

Yes, you are right about the Gurnos unfortunately LZ, I'm surprised about the residents talking in Welsh though, some can't even manage proper English ::)
It's this image that overshadows Merthyr though, and some of it is beautiful, like a lesser version of Snowdonia, believe it or not

I'd always agree with that JC, as it is around The Rhonda. Really beautiful, and I once never got over seeing a mountain top with snow on it in June when at Tonypandy 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-).
In fact in my opinion the scenery has only got better since the end of major coal mining around Merthyr, Rhonda, Bargoed, and all the other mining towns, with the spoil tips being cleared or landscapped. The beauty can be outstanding :-* :-* :-* :y
