I see you managed to get your leg over in that shot Debs
But hey, why play with little ones when you can get the real thing!
-
a 57xx unless i'm very much mistaken,...
Debs, you didn;t grow up on Anglesey did you? I knew a family in LlanfairPG with just such a railway in the garden, including a trestle bridge over a large pond.....
there was also one in a Park between Gossips green and Crawley, and there's a pretty funky one in Cutteslowe Park in oxford...
I miss having time and space and money to indulge in my love of steam and all things locomotive... or even the smaller scale approach... I loved dabbling in 00-9 , building bits of ffestiniog....
however, i had to choose between trains and guitars..... guitars made me a living.... so the trains lost....

That 7 1/4" gauge railway (near Llanfachraeth) now belongs to my friends; a truly wonderful place (see pic below)...... :y
.....coincidentally, I`m going there tomorrow. 8-)
My own little GWR Pannier tank is 5" gauge and live steam; I scratch-built her many moons ago. ;)

I had a small N gauge set.. one loop with a sub loop, little mountain, tunnel, station..
Always wanted a huge train set - a friend of mine as a kid had one in the loft that covered the entire house.
Oh the jealousy.
-
I am putting mine in the garage but not much room, so far the end and one side, it was a half finished portable layout now bolted to the wall
-
sold mine to a guy in leicester..
-
in the 1960s I used to exhibit mine in public and was in the local papers for doing so - now in bits in the loft

I thought you could get arrested for that kind of thing! :o :o
Must have been a different era...
;D
-
I used to go to local show's to see how big other people's were.
-
mine had the overhead electric supply - modelled on the Manchester to Sheffield run via Penis _tone.
Names come to mind lke Minerva, Ariadne and the number 27000+
Where is that anorak?
-
There's a model railway show on in Aldershot this weekend :D
-
Mine was the size of a table tennis table, it's not any more :'(
-
I never had one when I was a boy. I desperately wanted one but it never materialised. I got one about 20 years ago, it is quite a big one (O gauge) but I have never used it. It has sat gathering dust in the loft since shortly after its arrival.
-
When I read the title skrunts I though ummmmmmm but then I thought nah it cant be rude not on here but you never know with you shrunks but all in fairness it was clean for a change ;D ;D

Woodhead - so you used the Triang 77s, what did you do for the 76s?

But for your benefit maria ( as you seem to have a 1 track mind these days)
When I was a boy it was quite small, it got played with quite a lot as a baby as it was a novelty value learing sort of thing.
As I grew older the novelty wore off and it lay dormant a few years.
Then as I became a teenager I started to play with it more and more, and as the the size of it develped then scenery was added as time went by to enhance scenery.
After a while it's potentential was reached and it could grow no more. I often played with it a few times a day untill I got bored. Then as I learnt more about and got to know how to get more out of it so then it got used for excessive periods of time. I actually became quite experianced at using it.
As word got out about it;s size then more people wanted to have a go with it driving it in and out of the tunnels and through the bushes , inbetween the montains, oh so much fun in those days.
Now it stays all wrapped up cosy and warm, well whats left of it any way, and now only comes out for inspection one in a while, or on very special occasions when I have a vistor.
My God, it was actually quite big,
Oh I do miss my train set.
It would condece into a multple track layout the size of an omega, or stetch to a double garage size quite easily.
-
Skrunt's are you sure your talking about your BIG TRAIN set, because i cant think of anything else it could be ;D ;D ::)
