Post by: rikki_essex on 14 October 2010, 12:25:27
Last night the wifes car got broke into no damage at all any where on the door but being a women had ago at me for asking if she left the door open. The radio has gone and the only other thing that has gone missing is the pedal covers why???? But looked on ebay and funnily enought a radio exactly the same went on this morning and is about 1mile. The wife said she know it was a certain cd in there so if that comes out i will kick the living daylights out of the bloke.

You can't tell him that!!!

Suggest he returns it nicely, offer him advice on the error of his ways, be polite in your manner, speak softly, and if he gives you a manner of indifference in return,

BEAT THE CRAP OUT OF HIM UNTIL HE REPENTS OF HIS WAYS!!!!!

Well this is only a thought:

Why don't you contact the police, and explain the situation.  Then ask if an Officer could go with you to have a look at the radio (either before you buy or after), on the pretence that you're not too good with electrics, so you've brought you mate around who knows more  ;) .

Before you go, both have a story, and explain to the officer what disc is in the unit, what channels you've got programmed in, etc.  But get the Officer to handle the unit, not you.

Then if you think it is yours, get the Officer to arrest them there and then on suspicion of theft.

As I believe if they have reason to suspect, they can do a search of the premises, and if they come up trumps with your pedal covers also, even better  :y .

Down side is you may not get your unit back for a while if they need it for evidence ??.

Like I say, just a thought ?  ::) .

Hope you get it back  :y

getting the law involved could make things worse, nobody likes a grass especially as they know where he lives. hard thing to decide. the real law or your law.

Here's a question, related to this..

If someone steals your stereo...
Then you buy it back...
Does that mean you are handling stolen goods?  :-?

;D ;D Splendid question - even in this bizarre scenario Section 22 (Theft Act) 'handling............knowing or believing them to be stolen'  would only apply if the buyer was to know or believe them to be stolen.  If the buyer made the purchase in good faith a Section 22 offence wouldn't apply.

However in this case Section 1 of the same Act would have already defined the theft aspect and I would suggest that, effectively, in this instance, one couldn't steal one's stolen property back again.

Of course if one were to commit any other offence in the course of attempting to retrieve the property – using violence or threats, entering a vehicle or building unlawfully and so on - that would be another matter.

The goods will always remain stolen irrespective of howsoever many hands they pass through – legitimate or not.

Well i went round there last night on the way home from work and a little scrote answered the door and then called for his dad. When the guy came out he looked quite frail but i explained what had happend and the guy looked a bit worried and then pointed his car out and showed my the new radio in his car that was an upgrade. Then he went and got all the original documents for the radio so this wasnt the one. Oh well ill keep on the look out for my other one.
