Post by: skyblue on 20 October 2010, 21:52:29
Well we are off up north in the morning to Blackpool and was wandering if there are any major problems that occure on a daily basis on the M6 :-?

Yup, toll road it.

Then the whole section from Stafford up to Knutsford can be a bit tedious, then it generally opens up a bit :)

Take gloves and a damn warm coat. Its freezing up north! The M6 around Sandbach is always busy. Oh, and just go the toll road, it's £5 but it will save you tearing your hair out around Brum. Expensive, but having done a similar run, it's worth it :)

edit:- bah, beaten like a ginger stepchild  :D

Variable.  I have to go to Manx a fair bit for work. Some days you sail through, probably never going below 40mph. Other days, handbrake on.

Not the free-for-all it once was. I've routinely seen people pulled in by undercover cars getting tickets on there.

Watch out on one of the Bridges between j14 stafford and j15 at stoke. always unmarked cars waiting to pounce there (normally Black Skoda VRS). Roadworks at junc 10 and 12 for 2- 3 mile streches down to 40 mph. :y

Where does the north of england start from anyway? Using the M6 i would say from junction 15 leaving stoke?

I wonder how much they would make if they put variable speed limits on it, ranging from all the usual speeds, to derestricted at quiet times  :-/

Unless you hit it at rush hour the toll road is a waste of a fiver IMHO. Now, before it was so heavily policed I might have held a different view. ::)

You know, I use the toll road quite a bit as it's a useful jog round Brum back to my gaff and I have never seen one Traffic Officer, despite always driving at 68.5mph.  Ahem.  It's probably a time thing and I just seem to miss them.  ;)

Now when I used to live in your neck of the woods Jimbob myself and a few friends had many a happy evening 'testing' on the roads round there.  Mind you, that was back in the 80's when the local copper in Connah's Quay had a Mini 1000, complete with big round tit on the roof.
Happy days!  ;D
