played this track last night on the playstation - I love it - some of the fast sweeping bends are amazing plus a good few straights with tight turns which should see plenty of overtaking :y

But once you leave the land of make believe gaming, you'll find its the same old dull 'racing' (in the loosest sense)

Jaime, I think you should ban yourself from F1 threads as the tune's always the same. ::) ;D

I understand, and value, that everybody is unique, with different tastes etc.
BUT I have yet to find anybody who will sit in front of a freshly painted wall, watching it dry, purely for pleasure.
I really do struggle to see any excitement in any F1 race. Those that I have seen recently, admittedly not many, I fail to see the excitement that the post race pundits talk about, and bemused how they cream their jeans over the only 'overtake' in the race, during a pitstop.
Motorsport should be exciting, and should involve 'racing' in the true sense - man and machine, wheel to wheel.
The 'win' should count for more. 2nd should be classed as losing. It seems the current crop of drivers lack any desire to win a race, everything is about the championship. Thats what happens when too much money is involved.

agreed.. and imo most lap curves are so narrow that it doesnt permit passing .. racers having chance for championship dont take any risk.. I also personally have no joy of watching.. :-/

I do still enjoy watching the race but i do think health and safety stuck its nose in way to far as now the race isn't 100% a race, but without F1 all our road cars would be as advanced as a basic Mk1 escort

I suspect in reality, very little technology in cars would not be here if F1 disappeared...

I just have, actually. ;D Muppets refurbing our office came in to touch up a few bits of the wall. I'm sitting here thinking "that's the wrong rather colur, mate". "Oh, it'll be OK when it's dry". :-?
Well, it's dry, and it's still the wrong rather colour. ::) ;D
Someone's going to get it in the neck. ;D
Anyway...

Wouldn't have agreed 10 years ago but these days anything interesting or "cutting edge" seems to have been banished from the F1 mobile advertising hoardings.
They'll be the ones in the Mk 1 Escorts soon. Actually, Bernie, if you're reading this, I don't thing that's a bad idea. Might make for some more entertaining racing (it couldn't make it any worse?).
;)

F1 has never been about constant wheel to wheel racing in its entire history, so you shouldn't expect that. If you want that, go watch touring cars.
Having said that, for the past decade there has been far too much development in performance of aerodynamics. This greatly hinders cars from following each other to allow overtakes. They should greatly reduce the aerodynamic side of development and allow more freedom to create mechanical grip. Not only will that produce closer more exciting racing, but it is also more likely to result in parts filtering down to road cars.
But if people are finding this season of F1 boring, the sport really isn't for you. It's exceptionally rare for 5 drivers to be in contention for the title at the end of the season.

Hmmm, I must have dreamt that entire Senna/Prost era then ::). Mansell? I mere figment of my imagination.
I've always said there is too much aerodyamic grip, then need to severely reduce this.
Only reason there are so many in contention is simply due to number of points for a win. That in itself doesn't make it exciting.

I agree - it's been a great season and hopefully it'll go to the wire :y
I love touring cars, hill climbs, rallys - I've spent far too many wet weekends in forests, I agree F1 is a completely different sport - its about the best drivers in the most advanced cars, if you wanted it dumbed down look to Indycar (which i also love) in the states for closer racing and dozens of lead changes.
And I would dearly love to see every F1 driver in identical cars - sounds great....but anyone watching A1? Is it even still going? ;D

I watched 1979 South African GP last night before the practice, Villeneuve, Scheckter et al going at it in the wet (Jody on slicks after the restart) and the edited highlights looked great - but I think we're getting forgetting that you only remember the great races and the great moves - I'll wager the overtaking stats arent as amazing as you think :y

I agree this was a golden era for F1 in both drivers and cars. Cars had more mechanical grip and very little in aerodynamics which gave closer racing, but not significantly more than nowadays. The gulf between the teams at the front and back were just as apparent, if not more so at times! It was certainly not wheel to wheel lap after lap, even if small clips over a decade suggest otherwise. :P
This season has been far from boring.

I'd say they were. How many times this season has there been an overtake, on the track, for the lead?
