ooops - looks like the shiny new sub had a loose nut behind the controls  :o

or maybe its the defence spending cuts - they're grounding it earlier than expected  :y

thats not a submarine, its a famous stornoway black pudding, some eedjit flushed it down the lavvie and it ended up there.

slice it and fry it!! yum nuclear pudding ;D
Title: Re: HMS un-Astute
Post by: Banjax on 22 October 2010, 19:19:01
ironically, i heard on the radio the tug used to pull it free The Anglican Prince from Stornoway is being taken out of service next year due to govt cuts....one of only 3 tugs of that size in the UK (stornoway, lands end and devon)  :o

so if Capt Magoo plans anymore trips in his sub - he'd better be tootling around the South Coast  :y

yeah we have a contract to supply the Anglian prince so we will lose out aswell, knock on affect seems to have no meaning to the pen pushers.

Yes Debs, but the trouble is it didn't; it instead went up and didn't come back down!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Perhaps the little submarine doesn't want to be a submarine anymore and wants to be a frigate!! :D :D :D :D ;)

Do people in the forces still get punished for events like this or do they put it down to operational experience?  Lets face it if they hadn't run aground it would have been a very neat trick getting that close to land. Last time I saw anything as impressive was a killer whale taking a seal off the beach in Patagonia!! ;D ;D
Title: Re: HMS un-Astute
Post by: tunnie on 23 October 2010, 13:58:34
i would imagine it all falls down to the captain. Especially with something as fundamental as navigation. If a faulty torpedo went up, or an electrical problem stopped it, that would be different.

But to run a-ground, with all the computers working, in familiar waters, the Captain is going to be in trouble  :(

"Up Periscope. What do you see?"

"All I can see is Skye, skipper"

"Full steam ahead then!"

maybe?  ;)
