As many of you will know i've been after another Cortina since i sold the biege Mk5 but kept getting sidetracked by anything else that caught my eye & buying Midgets, p6 Rovers & the green military Classic that i still have & will now have to be sold. I'm picking the Cortina up on saturday & if it's good will be a keeper. The seller is an old boy & it's 3rd owner & Louth is only 30 mins. drive. Got plenty of spares for these.
I know most of you will think i need mental help but i adore my old Fords. Will post some piccies after a good valet. 8-)

Nice, never liked the Mk 4 and 5's (to behind the times by then really) but the earlier ones were the dogs danglies
-
Nice old bus guy!, is that the super as its got the twin chrome bits down the side?, & i have to ask, are the front wings actually steel as the headlamps used to fall out of these as i recall, :o :o, i used to have one of these with a 1640 with twin dcoe webers attached & a 2000e g/box, great fun. :y :y
-
the only thing I know about this car is that , it has same age as me ;D and looks more tidy ;D

Cheers Mark. I'm happily surprised at your opinion. I thought you'd hate it!!! The saloons were mostly sold as fleet/repmobiles so hopefully being an estate this was bought new as a family car so has led a more charmed life. 8-)
-
tell you what Guy, you could put discs on the front of the mk1 by robbing the struts off your old ford classic as they are a straight swap. ;D ;D ;D
-
great buy there nice one :y
-
Paid less for my Omega!
Certainly looks like a nice Cortina though. :y
-
What a nice motor good to see a classic getting a new home that isn't a scrappys :y
-
Not my cup of tea, but then each to there own and you do like them classics :y
-
a good example guy, seem to remember they can be a little loose at the back end on corners though.
good buy. :y
-
That looks like a lovely example. A great buy!! Another classic on the road again!!!! :)
-
wow...... just.... wow.....
i'm not sure whether to pat you on the back, or call the men in white coats.
(said the former owner of a ford corsair 2.0 V4 , numerous OLD Capri's V4, V6, and Xflow, and a Hillman Hunter,(holbay) etc...
i gave up tinkering with classic old cars when i broke my neck, and there started to be long drawn out painful consequences every time i went out and "played" .... on average spending a week in bed after merely changing a clutch ....
-
that'S cool, that's the first car i remember my mother owning she sold it after having a blowout on the motorway and was too scared to drive it again :-[ but i really like the mk1's and 2's had a real feel about them i had a mk3 G.T back in N.Z when i was a boy it was a good car but big and boaty, oh much like what i've got now!!! :)
-
It's lovely mate, it's years since I last saw one of these in estate form, must be getting very rare now :y
-
Congratulations , that's a lovely car.
Interesting to see it's got the " Super " model side trims fitted .
I had a '64 1500 Super that I modified some what ,just like Unlucky Alf ( Hi Tim ) in Spruce green with an Ermine white roof.
Anyway , you may find this interesting ,

Funnily enough i was thinking about 5 1/2j steels & painting the stripe & roof in old english white. I'd NEVER lower it though. I think that despite being a deluxe it has the Super chrome & heater box as it was one of the last Mk1's hence spec 'em up to make way for the new Mk2!
I won't be looking to make it go any faster or handle any better although i used to. Nowadays i like 'em just as they were intended. 8-)
-
Not seen one of those for years Guy :y
-
1200 does struggle though!! 1500 precrossflow would be nice AND A STRAIGHT SWAP BOLT IN!!!
kmk???c was my last mk1 tina, and i swapped it for a first generation 1600 st celica coupe and they make a fortune now,
!!!

A lovely example to get your hands on Guy :y :y :y :y

I had a '65 model Estate in the '70's. What I recall is I seemed to spend most of my time repairing holes in the front wings, and it was a b****r to start, no matter what I did to improve things. Despite all that it was the only car I ever made more on sellling than I paid after two years. I can't think why, except the guy who bought it obviously had some 'hot' money to get rid of, and paid cash.
Enjoy the car, and I hope it gives much pleasure.
-
The front wings are fibre glass. Some classic lovers don't like this but i'm fine with it. It's not a £20k concourse car, just an honest old bread & butter run around. Yes i could drop a 1500 in or a 1600 x flow (only have to turn the engine mounts round & a few little tweaks) but after all these years if the 1200 runs sweet there's precious little to be gained over the 1500 as i only cruise along at 50mph anyway, so don't need to uprate the brakes either, just maintain everything as Dagenham intended. The charm of driving an old vehicle is the whole point of running it as it should be. I do however feel that alternator conversions & kenlowe fans add to practical motoring without detracting from the original appeal.
Cortinas are my favourite cars ever, i just love all of them. They've gained this cheesey kitch reputation....Retro is cool now & in my little mind 'Tinas always have been cool as 8-) :y

Mine was a 1500cc if I recall correctly at this remove. It certainly did me and my young family well travelling up and down from the North of Scotland for two years. Sorry I can't remember anything else useful. :y

Does'nt matter mate. The fact you remember the car is enough in itself. 8-) :y

Nice car :y
In my garage is a 1962 ford consul375(dics brakes&servo)
Lovely in the summer when no rain?? :D vacuum wipers slow down when you accelerate :o
-
Picked her up today. Been buzzing about all afternoon just for the sake of it (No particular place to go!!) Reckon i've fallen on my feet with this one, it's really tight & quiet to drive, everything works & not only has she been flashed over to negative earth but the alternator conversion has been done as well.
Looking for 51/2 j steelies!!!!! 8-)

NCE! Reminds me of when we were painting mine. Can't believe how big the pile of chrome was & putting it all back! I think to post your own pics here they have to go through a hosting site like photo bucket which you seem to have done already!
Here's a few of mine...

Fuctifino B but thanks for trying. :y

Had a good go over the Cortina today, fitted a cd player, freed off a binding rear brake, sorted a bad indicator earth & flasher unit, all the rear brakes are new, the fronts are discs & will need pads soon, turned the tickover up a tad, just general fettling.
She looks great but won't post any pics til she's had a machine polish which won't be til next weekend now.
Jobs still to do:- Drain water & replace with new coolant, buy schultz gun for compressor & spray the whole underside/inner wings etc. Leaving the Beastie to have a lay in tomorrow & taking the 'Tina to work!! :D
