Hi all, no idea if anyone really noticed but not been on OOF for a while, :-[
No excuses really, work been really busy, you just get out the habbit sometimes and we are currently doing "LEAN" Manufacturing at work which is hard but very promising.
Also been busy recently getting a car sorted for my girlfriend, we just bought a little 2002 Yaris 1.3 SR with 39000 miles. Its pretty good for what it is but doesn't half make the Mig feel solid.
Well I hope everyone is fit & well, i'm well out of sync with whats going on with all you OOF'ers.
Looking forward to the weekend as I'm taking amy on a mini cruise to bruges. Should be fun! :y

Hi Richard, I'd noticed ;) ;)

welcome back..
not just our managers heard of LEAN then ;D ;D ;D
-
Hello Richard and welcome back to the forum :y
-
Lean, six sigma, 5S, kizan.....all 'dangle berries' in our game, (print packaging) the second oldest industry in the world afaik, and we get some blonde bimbo with not a clue about walking straight never mind our trade, re a ranging the factory for us...
....thing is I am all up for courses and training, there is always something you pick up to improve on, but all we learned was how not to change stuff purely for the sake of it, but then she had to show some sort of results ::)
If they took all those courses and events and replaced them with half an ounce of common sense we'd all be far better off.....but then that just my trade, probably more useful in others I guess... :-/
Sorry, went off on one there, ;D
Happy hols ;)

Thanks for the re welcome guys & gals.
Yeah only just started LEAN, doing the 5 S's and Kaizen Newspapers with Self Department Auditing etc.
I like it as it means we can get the whole department kitted out with new desks, chairs and maybe some carpet. We are getting rid of all the crap and clutter that we don't need.
It may sound silly asking for carpet etc but being a Pre Press Reprographics dept, years ago it used to be full of film processors and chemicals etc but now its just a room full of Macs & PC servers with some light tables etc so, carpet would looke good for the customers coming round & will feel good under my feet. LOL :y
p.s. Our LEAN is being lead internally rather than external LEAN people and he seems to be doing a really good job, it has changed the face of our shop floor dramatically and speeded up the production a huge amount. :y

.... 5S, .....
Doesn't that just mean clear up all the useable bits from around the workshop, stick it in a corner with red & white tape around it for a few weeks, and then throw it all away? They must've thrown £1000's & £1000's of parts away over the last few months. Then when you're looking for a ..... whatever ..... you have to order a new one in cos there's none in stores & the bit you knew was OK to get you away has been binned. :-? :-? :-? >:(

It does but once red tagged it has to be assesed and if you need it, it goes back but put into labelled storage etc. Everything you need should be to hand on shadow boards etc. :y

Careful Richard ...... you'll be believing the BS soon ;). Your answer is the theory, Chris's is the practice. ::)
It's hard enough at work to get stuff OUT of the stores, putting it back in is near impossible ;D ;D ;D

Hehe, our dept is pretty simple & quite small, only 5 of us in total and 4 of that is shifts so should be easy. Famous last words. I can imagine it being harder when working with many people & many components etc.
I've seen what they have done to our shop floor and its a huge improvement and if it can be done out there it can be done anywhere. hehe :y

Wellcome back Richard. :y :y. Hope you have a nice time on your trip :y.

Would love to visit Bruges one day. If you've not seen it yet, try to watch this film before you go.

Cheers guy, unfortunalty I don't think I will be able to make it on the 7th, I'm off out in York on the 6th so I very much doubt I will be in any fit state to drive on the Sunday. I will hopefully make it to the next local meet where ever that may be.
Turk, I have seen the film in Bruges just last week, good film if a little grim. :y

Ment to say earlier, Richards not far off tbh, we now leave stuff about deliberately for them to play with, if we dont they play with stuff we want left alone, and if there's no crap lieing around in an area we're happy with we put some in to distract them.
Same when the boss comes round on i tidy up mission, if the place is spotless, he'll pick up on something ludicrously trivial that will take for ever to sort out, so obviously there is always a nice little two minute job to sort out when ever he comes round, bless him ;D

the stuff that i used to see get thrown away in london was criminal!! eg. a 5000pound oven because it needed 1000 pound spent on it and that was the tip of the iceberg! we had one restaurant with a carved revolving door from the 1800's (Scott's in soho) which earlier had an american offer 25k for got skipped in a refurb........madness
