Title: Spiked?
Post by: doog on 24 October 2010, 08:23:33
I was out djing last night at a fancy dress party attended by 140 18 year olds  and all was fine untill it got shut down by the police due to a riot outside.

I packed up my stuff and came home not feeling too great and went to bed.

I woke up at 5am this morning violently shaking freezing cold even tho i had 2 duvets a house coat my wife cuddling into me and the heating on. I honestly though i was dieing  after about an hour of this i got back to sleep  and woke up at 8am (middle of the night to me) and feel like ive just been on an all night bender even though i was working and wasnt drinking.

Could have i been spiked?

possible or could be the early onset of a cold,
It depends on what you could have been spiked with, most drinks are spiked with a substance that will make you forget or the night hazy

In my distant youth I spent the best part of four years constantly smashed every single day.

What you've described doesn't sound like any sort of drug that I have ever experianced, (and trust me, I have experianced a hell of a lot).

I'd agree that it sounds more like the onset of a fever.

possible dehydration/hypERthermia? (heatstroke) tends to hit VERY quickly, and disappear just as fast.

If it turns out to be not a cold etc, and it happens again - straight to the GP!

Cem you are correct again

After that event with the shaking i felt better the next day so shrugged it off and got on with my day.
The next day i was flat on my back with a horrible fever  so well done to Cem et al for being right.

feeling very lathargic  and that my batteries are flat  but ive never had a violent shaking experiance like that

not a nice thing

has anyone genuinely heard of someone whos ever had a drink spiked? not hearsay or urban myth but actual medical evidence? i dont think its ever happened - I'll wait to be proved wrong if anyone knows different.

I think its up there with mobile phones causing petrol stations to explode and sheep "loving" - piffle - never happens :y

bad holiday.. actually those countries where tourists travel have different viral species .. and people living in those areas have their body defense systems mostly arranged for those kinds.. so it may be a good practice before visiting abroad having some preventive injections.. (some weeks ago)

not wishing to diminish your sister and her friends bad experience Plomien, I'm just genuinely curious as to the extent of the problem - any OOFers with police experience or medical staff who can tell me I don't know what I'm talking about then fair enough - I suspect that people think they've been victims, when in reality its the alcohol?  :o

btw police were involved and alcohol was not an issue as they had not long been out, but left their drinks unattended

I know that its a perceived problem Plom, I don't know any police or NHS staff that have ever actually come across a genuine case  :o

I've had a drink spiked....  the result being a particularly unpleasant trip, literally, and hospital tests ( i was out with the wife , and started hallucinating.... she called an ambulance rather than have me trying to drive home , nuff said) revealed LSD in the system  , something which i have NEVER indulged in willingly...

this was in 91

i know several other friends have had spiked drink  experiences, one of which was a rohypnol date rape

she's still traumatised, 10 years later. and still wont go in to a pub....

there was also an experience in the 80's of "squidgy black" being "beefed up" with a little opiate...

someone thought it would be funny to pass round a bong stoked with this....

it was a seriously bad idea....    at least half the people present have never touched another spliff... or cookie, or anything....

okay so maybe the results may or may not have been bad long term, but NO-one enjoyed it....

MANY years ago on a friends stag night a "friend" decided it would be fun to get a jug of vodka and red bull and "spice " it up a little with some added chemical he bought that he was told would make the party swing a bit.

SIX of us were admitted to Frenchay Hospital with severe lethargy and balance problems (except me, who was the designated driver luckily) they were kept overnight, and most threw up all in their tummies pretty quickly, and were "better" the next day except one, who stayed in a couple of extra days as he had drunk the biggest amount of it and it effected him the greatest.
Dunno what it was, but he was not (and is STILL not!!) persona non grata for the rest of us for doing it. We were told by the hospital that if he had doubled what he put in, there was a real possibility that we would be stomach pumped straight away.
the police were not called, as we all liked the blokes wife, and we wouldn't put her through the shame and hassle of it all, but most of us don't speak to him any more.

Not big or funny.

Oh................forgot to say.................

The bloke apparantly got "mugged" a few days later and beaten up a bit.

Told Police he didn't see the face of the bloke that did it..............!

None of my mates would admit to doing it, but funnily enough, ALL of them knew about it happening very quickly................Mmm.
