Morning all,
Currently I'm driving an Omega GLS estate and a TVR Chimaera, but I'm thinking of chopping them both in for a happy medium - an MV6 estate! But before I do this, I wanted to ask a few questions...
First off, how much do they normally go for? I've seen a really clean looking '99 MV6 estate not far from me, with fairly low miles but it's up for £3k, and this seems to be over the odds compared to other cars. What's the going rate for them?
Also, I have to say I prefer the look of the pre-facelift cars, but is there any major difference between them that should be encouraging me to buy a newer one? I'm not too bothered if the older V6's are thirsty, I'm used to it with the V8 in the trevor, but just wondering if the newer cars handle better, worse or the same as the old ones.
Also, any major weak points to look out for on an MV6?

OK, the car I've seen is a 1999 T-reg, 71k miles, silver MV6 manual estate with leather, xenons etc, pre-facelift model, some MOT and tax and allegedly good condition, up for £2995

You need to be asking for proof of cambelt, tensioner and water pump changes at that milage :y

I have driven this car and it is not a very good one, it pulls to one side like mad and is in a bit of a state internally. IMHO i think £1600 would be pushing it and that includes them putting the faults right ;)

While I prefer the look of the pre-facelift cars, the facelift is a better car all round.
It has better handling, less wind noise, displays that don't generally fail, better corrosion protection and other minor improvements.
£3k for a T reg is comical unless it is a minter.
The problem with going for a facelift is finding one with a manual box (auto MV6 is a bit pointless in my opinion :-/).
If you go for a pre-facelift, get the last ones (V plate generally) with a manual box and the excellent
leather recaros.
If you want more info on them just ask, I have been driving one for the last 2yrs.

Cylinders work better in even numbers I find and the 16v is a more durable motor with plenty of tuning possibilities.

Just as well - a bloke driving a bright yellow coupe would not look right...)

One works well on small bikes, three works well on bigger bikes, 9 works on radials and small Deltics

Any less than 4 results in vibration. Even things like Speed Triple suffer...

Even 4 results in vibration, unless it's a boxer 4 (i.e. only Subaru these days). V6s aren't naturally balanced either.... for that you want an I6, V8, V12 or any boxer engine with even number of cylinders. I'm sure there are more (W16 springs to mind) but that's off the top of my head :D

I've had 1 cyl OHV, 1 cyl Disc valve, lots of 2 cyl 180degree 8 valve DOHC, a 2 cyl SOHC 4 valve 360 deg (horrid) and a 4 cyl 16 valve

Oh and the 180 degree twins had a balancer shaft (gear driven unlike the Hondas ;D)
