part of what has been offered would be 'self funding' and taken from us else where.

Head of anti-personnel has been awarded a 15% bonus this year ......  :-? His salary is £97 000  :o  :o

To some the peasants have always been considered to be revolting!! :D :D :D :D ;)

As for baked beans, the best are Branstons Baked Beans, so Heinz can go on strike if they like!! :P :P :P ;D

Whatever the perceived rights and wrongs of it Andy, its not a good time to take on an employer. They have the upper hand at the moment and they know it.
I am hopeful of getting some sort of pay rise later this month. If it happens it will be the first in about 7 years. Had a 45% drop 2 years ago when loss of job meant finding another. ;)

Absolutely right Andy, but that is due to them being a very established brand with a huge loyal customer base.  I have also noticed how Heinz marketing guys have done on superb job in tackling the new kid on the block by obviously tying supermarkets into display agreements which has led to mass displays of Heinz beans, plus other Heinz products, with Branston Beans left with one facing of multipacks and no more than five facings of single cans.  Heinz Beans are also generally cheaper around the major supermarkets.

All that is very clever and professional marketing, which I admire, but if more people were to try Branston Beans many would never go back to Heinz :D :D ;)

..................and out of interest I have dug out these sites on the subject

http://news.scotsman.com/news/Beanz-no-longer-meanz-Heinz.6009638.jp

.....................Which mentions:
"Baked beans made by Branston came top with 73 per cent, with Heinz taking joint fourth position, behind Asda's and Morrisons' own brands."

.............which mentions:
""Premier Foods, the UK's No. 1 food manufacturer, has this week stolen the ‘Best Baked Bean' crown from market leader Heinz, when its Branston Beans brand beat Heinz in a Which? taste test."

Which? asked members of the public to try 12 types of baked beans including private label and economy varieties." Branston Beans were the brand of choice with Asda's own label in second, Morrisons third and Heinz in fourth place.

http://www.marketingmagazine.co.uk/news/542393/Promotion-Works-Branston-Baked-Beans/?DCMP=ILC-SEARCH

............which mentions:
"Results: Some 750,000 consumers took part in the sampling drive, with 76 per cent stating a preference of Branston to Heinz's Baked Beans. More than three million samples were handed out via newspapers, door drops, leisure centres and bakeries."
I will also be calling on Asda!!!:

I do that Andy, but my retail management brain often takes over and I am always looking out for new merchandising and marketing techniques. I am continually analysing the amount of faces, the positions given to product on shelves, and where each product range is around the store!  I can usually completely recall the layout of a store after going around it!  Quite sad really, but after being in retailing for 38 years and talking shop continually I cannot get it out of my mind!! ::) ::) ::) ::)

I am also a serious shopaholic, which is why I went into retailing at 12 years of age!! ::) ::) ::) :D :D :D ;)

I too hav'nt had a pay rise in 7 years but still have my job.  Beans are beans to me except the real budget ones which are tough & watery. I wait til a supermarket is doing an offer like 4 pack 99p & buy a bootload of any decent brand to last 'til the next offer. You can do so many things with them but my fave recipe (if you can call it that) is to:-
   Make cheese on toast then towards the end spoon a few beans on top, not too early or they'll dry out but in time to warm them, a little garlic salt (as they leave all the salt out now so we just put it back!) Hey presto, pikey pizza!
   P.S Andy. I love the way the locals call Wigan "Wiggin"!!! ;D

Interesting how this just drifted off topic onto types of beans, taste of beans, marketing of beans.

I suspect that the crisis must be over in Britain for there to be little sympathy or comment over the situation of these workers.. It is easy to pay one person 15% extra but not eay to pay a workforce the same 15%. Best offer them something paltry to keep the shareholders happy. :y :y

That's probably my fault Varche!! ::) ::)

But what I am getting at in a roundabout way is that there is always a competitor ready to take advantage of any workers strike, which will only damage themselves and the company they work for.  In this case it is Heinz and their much vaunted baked beans, and it would be so easy for them to seriously lose market share to the now highly rated Branston Baked Beans :P :P :P

You make a valid point but some of us have an even worse trot pay wise so it's all relative. As for the new beans forum, well they're a big part of our lives so woth a word.
    I'm still not going to get a pay rise for a while so laugh it off. No matter how seriously we take things or which government/coalitians we're under, nothing will change. The fat cats will continue to expand, nothing will change so why bother? As long as i've got a roof over my head, food on the table & a few quid in my pocket i could'nt care less.
   Let them all fight it out & don't get involved. This approach has worked for me for 24...sorry, 47 years. Think i've got it sewn up by now! Guy. :y 8-)

Time for me to drift off topic (Oh dear)  :o :o

When we came to Spain we missed baked beans. Couldn't find any heinz or other so made our own out of the stuff you can buy in the supermarkets. Far cheaper and far better in taste!

Of course now all the supermarkets here  stock Heinz (at a premium of course) I'd rather starve than pay 70p for a tin of sugared and salted beans in a bit of tom sauce.
