i wouldn't advocate piracy, of course - but you wonder sometimes at the thinking behind all the ads on a normal DVD - total pain in the whatsits - i should get a discount for all the ads or sell one for £1 more with no garbage :y
-
im a bit of a special features junkie which you dont get on a pirate dvd . Well there was extras on the pirates of the caribbean dvd so some pirate dvds have extras ;D
-
I despise the fact there isnt a 'just rather play the film' button on my remote ;D
And why to they have anti piracy 'adverts' surely thats preaching to the converted ;D
That said the retail offerings are normally of higher quality, and do offer more extras (allegedly).
I suspect some of the adverts are used to reduce the end price, as im sure ive noticed when you buy a 'very' new film at full price there arent forced trailers....but buy the same title a few months later at a 1/3rd of the price, there are trailers, so wonder if they repress a 'cheaper' version later down the line :-/
-
its a fair point. no messing just straight to the action. so long as the quality is good. :y
-
Great ad BJ ;D ;D :y
I hate all the ads before the film starts >:(
-
i have a really good reason not to et pirate dvd's, games or cd's
THE REAL ONES PROVIDE ME WITH EMPLOYMENT, THE PIRATE ONES ROB ME OF INCOME ,.
-
Silly example - Matrix goes more or less straight into the film ;D ;D
Last film I watched was Beowulf - straight into film from disc insertion (BluRay though)/
Fox are the worst - I used to rip & burn until I worked out the common factor and gave up buying them.
I complained to as many people as possible on those and made a lot of use of DVD Shrink and dual layer blanks simply to remove the sadverts, it got to the stage I did not enjoy the film.
There was one more reason for downloading them about 2 years ago, the format.
One studio was stupid enough to support HD-DVD only - when the most popular HD disc player is the PS3.
Play a BluRay - buy it, place in PS3 - watch :y
HD-DVD - doesn't work - so download a rip - copy to the PS3 - watch it
No way was I slumming it with DVD or encouraging HD-DVD ;D ;D - couldn't afford yet another disc player anyway

Tell them to not put forced adverts on the front, I just gave up buying and did other things instead.
Tell them to release on formats we can use.
Tell them to create CDs as red book CD Digital Audio not some strange format not recognised by large numbers if reb book compatible players.
I have taken CDs back for replacement on a few occasions (repeatedly) eventually finding out off the internet once I got my money back that they were not to red book standard.

The anti piracy ones are actually detrimental to sales, people HAVE to sit through them, they also discover there is such a thing as pirate films and downloads.
I haev bought a total of three pirate films all starring Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow
-
i've never bought a pirated film in my life ironically, as i get annoyed if the picture isnt 100%, however the argument that sales of pirated stuff hurts income is spurious as it assumes that everyone buying pirated stuff would automatically pay full price if there no other option - which, judging by the amount of chavs in knock-off "G-Star" gear around these parts is probably not the case ;D
-
In this instance, I'll abandon the facade of civility...
the argument that it hurts income is spurious is it??
that is utter 'dangle berries'.
it does not assume that EVERYONE would pay full price, it merely assumes that SOME of them would pay ANYTHING> after all.... in the case in point, if they're buying pirate copies...... they're paying money.... argument over.....
the reduction of income due to piracy in general (downloading as well as copying) is significant, more so for smaller acts/films/productions to be honest.... anyone with a foot inside the industry knows it, and many can easily produce accounts showing down turns in revenue coinciding with increases in practical availability of illegal copies.... as broadband gets faster, and file hosting gets cheaper....
....
i'm not getting any further in to this argument here, I have it enough on the "work related" forums I help manage.
(with 85,000 + unique registered users..... it takes some managing sometimes, thus i'm sometimes not around these parts for fairly extended periods.... )
all i will add, is that i'm a huge fan of the legal predicament Limewire recently found itself in....
hope it happens to all of em.

I think some people must buy pirates because the cost of dvds is just ridiculously high, especially for new releases, and so called Hollywood blockbusters. I'm not paying inflated prices so an over-rated actor or actress can buy another mansion.
It doesn't bother me though, I rarely buy them, but when I do I buy them second hand off ebay, 6 months down the line when they are cheap as chips. :y
-
I'm so glad I use Media Center. And because of Microsoft's insistence and the drive manufacturer's insistence that anything can only change region a maximum of 5 times, I have to run AnyDVD (which is also handy to reduce drive speed/noise). This allows bypass of the mandatory trash, but you still have to bloody well press buttons.
Sony deserve to go bust, the world would be a better place without those gay retards, so I have no objections if people want to pirate their stuff. I hate 'em
-
I have found with BluRay there is a lot less cr@p at the beginning - and they are now starting to get cheap.
I haven't bought a DVD for 2 years, and only a few BDs - just haven't watched that many films as most recent ones are poo!
Music - I want decent quality I have a few SACD and DVD-A, I dislike mp3, CD is OK.
As to buying pirate stuff* - that is just wrong, if you are going to spend money - raid the bargain bins!
* Unless it involves Johnny Depp and friends in the Carribean

I neither provide or deprive income 'cos i don't sit around watching movies.
How dull. ::)
-

Can't beat a bit of nebulous Arnie etc. Mindless action with a predictable outcome.
I suspect Mrs TB will be insisting on her post Christmas 'man in string vest shouting yippe ky aey, muvver F', 4 in a row extravaganza... :o

I find searching for electronic components in google normally provides that, bloody internet is stuffed full of it. The kids now don't suffer the embarrasment of top shelf mag buying....
Still, according to the Daily Mail and its ilk, everyone on OOF is a paedophile, as we all use the internet. tossers.

Getting back on topic, as it were, I hate the unskippable ads on DVDs. Am I the only one who used to have all their VHSs wound on a couple of mins ready so that whenever I wanted to watch one there was the beginning credits for the prog/film straight away? Oh, the glory days of visual entertainment.
And another thing (getting off topic again :y) the kids today will never experience the guilty pleasure of finding their first 'muckymag' all torn and discarded in the bushes of the local park! That was a special day a man shall always cherish. :)

i know exactly what you mean! those were good times!

Yep, almost all of my DVD's are legit and I HATE the adds.
I would actualy buy more of them if they got rid of the dross.
But there jumped up idiots who dont give a screw about what the CUSTOMER really wants and would rather bleat about pirate copies.

One of the reasons I stopped buying
-
The problem with buying legit dvds is once you paid good money for an over rated film only to find it's absolutely trash you may have wasted up to twenty quid, if you buy a pirate copy you don't lose so much on rubbish and then can buy an original if you like the film. It's a pity the film companies don't offer a satisfaction guarantee.
-
me bad i buy copys
mostly get 3 for a tenner and the quality is as good as the real thing, the days of jumping around and heads in shots are gone.
-
Buy pirated DVD's, buy legit DVD's. Not never (unless it's for my dads birthday, xmas etc).
There's other ways to see what you like ;) :-X
