On the way to work last night I noticed that the local LPG garage has put the price up 4ppl during the day to 70.9 >:( >:( :o :o
Think this has made my mind up about getting another V6 and LPGing it :'(
That said, I intend to keep mine on the road as long as possible!
Replacement is likely to be a smelly oil burner of the BMW variety (eventually) or possibly a Jag XJ 2.7TD
-
Go and lie down in a darkened room, you'll soon get over it. ;)
-
its still only 61.9 here, i've no hope at all for fuel prices coming down again, i'm almost contemplating gettin a small 60mpg diesel next year
-
58p few weeks ago but my millage has dropped from 500+ miles a week to zero! Not kept an eye on prices.
Think i would go derv next, those 2.7 diesel Jags are awesome, if a tad expensive.
Thing is, one of those diesel jags is what £12k? at best? A V6 Omega can be had for £1k, if you want to splash out, £3 even £4k that still leaves 8k spare, that can buy a lot of fuel!
Add in the Omega is cheap as chips to run in terms of parts and DIY service, it makes a modern oil burner a tough call :-/

Exactly. Not much more to pay than fuel and consumables with an Omega. No problem too big to resolve. That's worth a little, IMHO.
As is not driving a soulless tractor, no matter how quick it is.
Just filled up at 65.9 >:( I bet LPG outfits are feeling the pinch. Still a very worthwhile saving if you have it fitted, but can't be many punters queueing up for £2k conversions these days. :-/

Yep has been 70.9 at the local BP (British Pirates) for a couple of weeks now. How they (LPG suppliers) can get away with such a price differential (up to 9p a litre!!!) across the country beats me. I've raged about this before!! I'm thinking of a change to an Insignia Elite 2.0CDti that I have seen at a Vx dealers.
-
PetrolPrices.com LPG shows-
Tcs Beacon Hill, Ipswich. 58.9p
Morrisons, Ipswich. 60.9p
Not that far from Woodbridge.
;)
-
Unleaded for the pup-mobile is 128.9 p.p/l locally here now! :o
My Landy-Disco has turned 'vegetarian' ;) (Rapeseed oil: 20 litres/£12.99).......why can`t the cash and carry save me the hassle of buying 20 litre drums and just install a pump in the car-park. ;D
-
67.9 at my local, was 64.9 a week ago! What's going on? Acumilater deal gives an average of 5p a litter(or even a litre ;D) off, but even so.... :-?
-
My supplier had gone up from 64p to 65p when I last filled up a few days ago. If it suddenly jumps to 70p or more in the near future, I will probably sell the Omega and keep the Merc. Or maybe sell both and buy a small diesel. :(

but diesel is about 5p a liter more than petrol so petrol could be cheaper!!!!

my mig averages about 23mpg here locally in cornwall,my 406 hdi is around 47 mpg doing the same routes so the extra cost of derv is easily lost.If the mig was my only car I think I would get shot of it if I didn't like it so much ::)
-
Just remember .... even though LPG prices have gone up ... petrol prices have as well ....
My local LPG has risen from 64.04 to 65.8 p/ltr in the last month.. but petrol has gone from 117.9 to 120.9 p/ltr in the same time.
Fuel "saving per mile" is now running at a reasonably steady 9.84 p/mile average when towing to 8.46 p/mile when solo
Still worth it IMHO :)
-
If you sell it you'll miss it. Horrible diesel will cost more than any other fuel, the novelty of the Jag will soon wear off, you'll never love it.
How many miles will you have to do to make up the purchase price of the Jag? That could take years by which time the Jag won't be worth a light. We all have to wear fuel costs Paul, i think you're making a HUGE mistake mate. ::)
-
I'm still paying 60.9, but expect that to go up. Cheapest petrol I can get is 115.9 at Asda (I know, as I had to buy some unleaded for the MV6 as the fuel light and range warnings were ticking me off ::), first time I've bought petrol for MV6 since April)
-
I fully intended to LPG my V6 but I can't really justify the cost at the moment when I can just jump in the DTi....
I also can't bear to sell the V6 after all the work i've put into it and the money it's now worth....
Still.... The V6 get's used most weekends to put the smile back on my face after a shit week at work! ;D

Guy I work with has a 2005 Audi A4, his central door locking motor failed, had to destory the door card getting access. I nearly fell of my chair when he said it had to pay £300 for a single door card!
He's in IT same as me, and trawled eBay & Breakers but could not find one same style as his, so he had to get it brand new.
I bought 4 door cards for £20 ;D
-
Lpg is still the way to go :y, just wish I didn't have to travel so far to fill up :'(. Still can't get my van to run on lpg. :(
-
Noticed in mine lately that driving it round town under 2000 revs makes a noticable difference compared to say 3000 revs.Really got to lay off that gas pedal. ::)
-
A local Batley garage has put LPG up by 1p to 56.9p/L, Prices on the A580 are all around 61.9p/L. funny how they all went up to the same price at the same time :P

Went to fill up this morning, my usual place has gone up 5p since Monday, now 65.9p
Out of disgust, I didn't fill up, and left them with 10,000 miles worth of rear rubber.
So got into the office, on that stupid petrol price site, they claimed Towcester was 63.9p, so went that way home. Again, 65.9p. Again, 10000 miles of rear rubber left in forecourt.
Reckon I'll be running on petrol this weekend ::). But at least I have principles ;D

Filled up yesterday at Morrissons in Ipswich on the way out to Warrington (as it's virtually on the way and not a 25 mile, hour and a half out of my life trip ::)) for 60.9ppl... A saving of 10ppl over the local garage :o :o
Had to fill up on the way back at Utoxeter at 66.9ppp... Not too bad and I was out.
Still not sure that I can be bothered with getting another petrol car and converting it :-/ :-/
The BMW oil burner is just so drivable and frugal too :-/ :-/
Or do I go for another 4x4 again :-/ :-/
Anyway... Not likely to be a decision I need to make too soon :y :y

Driveable, frugal, clinical & downright boring, not to mention expensive to buy & maintain. Given the purchase price how can you save? :-?

You forgot to mention that nobody will let you out of a junction again either. ;)

Have you driven one Guy? They're not boring... Clinical, perhaps... But the F/L interior could be described as clinical too ::)
As for maintenance... Not really dramatically more for general maintenance but, admittedly, when something else goes wrong will be more to put right. But then they don't eat wishbones and crank sensors like the Omega does.
Let's take off the rose tinted specs for a minute and bear in mind that I'm talking about changing no sooner than a couple of years time (hopefully)... So if I could find a Facelift Elite with the spec I want (I have been looking for nearly 2 years now and not found one!) it will be 9/10 years old... My intention is to get something newer.
Anyway... Not surprised at the reaction this thread has received but just being realistic ::)
-
I'll still love you regardless of what you drive Paul!!!! :D
-
Being brand loyal... I jump into my DTi Elite 5 to 6 days a week because of the economy.... the V6 Elite is an expensive toy that I simply can't afford to run as a daily drive.
Don't knock a diesel lump bolted into a decent RWD V car chassis because of a bit of smoke and the morning death rattle.
Likewise, a BMW RWD chassis with a modern diesel engine can't be wrong in my book.....
-
Get a 6 cylinder BMW diesel engine from 2005 or later, and you'll hardly hear it :y
