I have only seen the Northern Lights once, think I was about 13, we were at my Nans in Aberdeen and it was a really calm water in the harbour and we were watching the fish jump (to catch fly's maybe?) and after a few mins the sky just lit up with the northern lights, it was a spectacular sight.

I hope I get another to see them again.

In the correct conditions... Yes! Earlier this year there was a couple of weeks of perfect conditions and there was talk of potentially being able to see them as far south as the north coast of Norfolk, if a few other factors combined at the right time!

I saw they years ago from near Gloucester - only time ever they were visible so far south

A while back we were lucky to see them in Shropshire, and I remember seeing them when I was about 17 too.  To get them so far south is indeed very rare.

See them quite regularly when we are with our daughter in Northern Minnesota USA. Have got photos of them with forest fires in background and with whole lot reflected in lakes

Yes you can and apparently quite often,  if I hadnt seen them with my own eye's I would never believe the video's/stories told about them to be true.

I may never see them again.  But was one of the most memorable thing's I have ever seen.

In my "previous occupation" I was fortunate enough to see many good things ... as well as some pretty nasty ones ..

But the "Northern Lights" seen from Thule

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thule_Air_Base

were one of the most spectacular things I ever saw. The station would actualy turn of all street lights etc for an hour during the more amazing "shows" ... the lack of "light pollution" then made them even more fantastic.

Unfortunately, in those days, I had little interest in photography ... :(

Here they are then. Unfortunately not best quality as had to scan them in. Also put in photo of an eagle that we spotted over our daughters land. Sorry but can't work out why last two are rotated!!
