On a serious note I was back in Scotland a couple of weeks ago and went to a Friends Reunited reunion . met up with over 250 people from the town I grew up in .
I was shocked , nay , horrified at the number of people who are on long term incapacity benefit payments and who spent the evening dancing away like teenagers .
They took pride in telling me the dodges that had to be employed ( s'cuse the pun ) to ensure they continued "on the pigs back " . Many, but not all ,also had some kind of undeclared income allowing a superior standard of living to mine.
I spent an evening with one good friend of mine from way back ( I'm sad to say ) who enjoys the payment due to a " back " injury .He has three holidays a year ,two properties in Bulgaria and a BRAND NEW merc E220 sitting on the driveway of his non mortgaged 4 bed detached house.
He and his working wife openly admitted to the situation but defended it by telling me after working since leaving school " he deserved it "
My wife was unemployed once for a few weeks about eight years ago and got £75 a week jobseekers allowance and when she got another  job it was taken back off her .
If this was indicitive of the misuse of the scheme then reform is long overdue. :o

I agree! When made redundant a few years ago, I was entitled to sod all because I had a decent redundancy payment ..... now all gone unfortunately  :'(

Good use of the word indicative!!!  :y :y :y :y

I think if we started culling them it could save the public purse quite alot of money. We could start with those who haven't had a job for 10 or more years and go from there.
