finally someone courageous ..
"The much-anticipated, explosive exposé of how cell phone use damages brain cells, especially in children, by one of the world’s foremost scientific experts in the field.
Cell phone radiation is a national emergency. Stunningly, the most popular gadget of our age has been shown to damage DNA, break down the brain’s defenses, and reduce sperm count while increasing memory loss and the risks of Alzheimer’s disease and even cancer. And half the world’s four billion cell phones are used by people under twenty." :( :(

Courageous or scaremongering ??
Or actually .. just a way of making more money from a book ??? Lets face it .. without such "dramatic" headlines I doubt anyone would even hear of her book, let alone buy it.
Bucket of salt with that one methinks :)

Hi Entwood..
from my previous reading about that subject,
briefly I can say that a mobile (or cell) phone is a small microwave.. would you like to talk inside a microwave when its cooking your brain cells ;D :y
She is an oncolog..
I have no doubt about that subject.. So I recommend everyone be careful about that .. and use mobiles only under critical circumstances.. use fix phones instead..

Nope .. but I spent much of my working life (38 years) a few feet from transmitters putting out very much more power than the few milliwatts of a mobile phone. In the case of the HF transmitters it was measured in Kw not mw.
2 X VHF, 2 X UHF, 2 X HF voice communications at all times, plus VOR/ILS/SAR/LORAN/DECCA and a "weather & collision" radar.
I guess I was pretty much surrounded by microwaves of various length !!!
If the grey cells were going to be "fried" then I'll have brown sauce on mine .. :)

I wish and hope you will not have health problems Entwood :y
but dont forget those scientists everyday deal with those subjects.. please check the last link I posted :y
edit:
"Davis shows that independent studies on cell phone radiation found dangers at more than twice the rate of industry-funded studies—though because the cell phone industry is the source of much of the funding of cell phone studies, there are far more of the latter. And ultimately that is what is truly disturbing about Davis's book. Time and again, she shows the way that industry has been able to twist science just enough to stave off the possibility of any regulation—and finds that researchers are afraid of challenging the status quo, lest they find themselves suddenly out of a job, denied the lifeblood of research money. Most of the few brave researchers who challenge the prevailing wisdom on cell phone radiation—like the electrical engineer Om Gandhi or the bioengineer Henry Lai—are senior scientists, secure in their positions and their tenure. But a young researcher just starting out is far more vulnerable to industry pressure. Science isn't as pristine as we imagine it. "There has not been truly independent research in this field," says Davis. "That has to change.""

Know what you are saying Cem .. but for every scientist with her point of view .. there are a load more with the opposing view.
As in all things ... anyone can say "It is harmful ... we just haven't proved it yet" bit like the "Global Warming" theorists ...
many theories .. few answers :(

Funnily enough at work we havr recently been speaking to someone who tests mobile phones. This person will not own a mobile phone, or even a cordless phone.
Some statistics he quoted are a 40% increase in brain tumours, no mobile phone should ever be closer than 15mm to the body. People who keep there phone in the trouser pockets having to have testicle removed.
Now I am sure some of these things can be explained for other reasons. But there has to be no doubt these phones are causing issues in some people.
And the more you use one the greater the risk.
I have nothing to gain from this, I am a very occasional user, in fact my phone is off most of the time, and I did this before I spoke to this person.

Entwood, I tend to believe free groups or scientists instead of high profit making companies.. Nowadays its a really big profit area where those companies budgets are same size as a medium size countries income :o
so , please show your distrust and suspicion to also what those companies say.. :y

I take the comments from this person with a certain amount of scepticism. Not because I think she's only trying to promote a book or is being a shrill, but because as she says herself she's not sure about whether mobile phones are a health hazard - so until I see something definitive then I'm not going to be overly concerned.
However, I have always done quite a few of the suggestions made on this thread, such as not keeping a phone in a trouser pocket or having it switched on all the time, and the volume is at max as I find pressing a phone against my ear is uncomfortable, so I have it a small distance away - I can't use those clip-over earpieces or little i-Pod earphones for the same reason. But I do these to save money or convenience and I think it's a decent enough idea to maybe think a little about how you use devices and whether they really are so absolutely critical to your life.

"Davis noted during her talk that many scientists have dismissed the idea that exposure to radio-frequency electromagnetic radiation may pose health threats. Unlike X-rays and other forms of “gamma radiation,” radio waves are non-ionizing – they do not directly break chemical bonds within molecules such as DNA.
But DNA is damaged indirectly by cell phone transmissions, according to Davis. Within cells, she said, “There are alterations of fundamental processes by pulsed signals from cell phones.” For instance, exposure can trigger production of harmful production of oxygenating free-radical molecules. Davis presented research showing that radiofrequency electromagnetic radiation does indeed damage DNA.
Experiments also find evidence for disruptions to the cell cycle, through which cells divide and grow, and a decrease in the ability of cells to repair DNA, Davis said.
Davis noted the role of epidemiologic studies in demonstrating the health hazards of tobacco and asbestos. She said it is a mistake to insist on a demonstration of a biological mechanism of harm for proof. Epidemiologic evidence plus a biologically plausible mechanism should be sufficient evidence to act upon, Davis said, and such evidence already exists."
"Cancers may be triggered decades before they are diagnosed. Excess brain cancers among survivors of atomic bombs dropped on Japan did not become apparent until more than 40 years later, Davis said. Children, whose cells and tissues are still developing quickly, may be especially vulnerable – also evidenced by the high incidence and early onset of breast cancers among atomic bomb survivors"

simple answer? use a earpice and mike with the phone in your pocket!!! or bluetooth?

yep..sure less harmful..

I'm sure pretty much all of the argument's bunkum - on both sides.....
but irrespective, the use that the mobile phone brings to mankind has got to be worth an increaset heath risk, surely.

An argument very rarely aired. :y Just like road safety, the attitude is so often that if there is a risk, it has to be banned. Just like roads, mobile phones have saved many people's lives and made a huge difference to all our lives.
We can be sure that if there was a significant risk, after 20 years of mobile being relatively commonplace, we'd have noticed people falling off their perch by now.
So, whatever risk is worth it, IMHO. If you disagree, nobody's forcing you to buy a mobile phone!

petrol stations still believe that mobiles phones "magically" blow up fuel and go nuts if you're on the phone in the forecourt ;D
there might be some truth in this case Cem, but as I drink, smoke and dodge salads I guess it'd be hypocritical of me to worry about mobiles, when I definitely know my lifestyle is bad :( :y
