For the second time this year, pikey scumbags have cut, hauled out and nicked massive BT cables supplying phone and Internet to the Stansted area cutting off thousands of people. >:( At my office we have had a very limited phone service but no Internet or e-mails for the second day now and BT reckon it will be another 2 or 3 days to get it up and running again. So the Pikey's cause misery to thousands and put life in danger for the sake of making a few quid on flogging the copper from the cables. These miserable excuse for human beings don't give a toss what hardships they cause by their petty actions as long as they've made enough to stock up on their beer, fags and drugs etc. If I had my way I'd terminate them at birth!! >:( >:(

agreed some friends of mine were without phone or internet for 5 weeks because of the damage done by pikies nicking cables
-
They've been nicking the cables along the train lines around here. I can't wait for one of them to get it wrong and fry himself >:(

its not just a few quid they are making, i know that for a fact, they have obviously got the wrong cable as the ones they are after are copper and lead and about 60mm thick in total, and 100metres a night is not a a small sum to be taking. :-X

Of course it may not be pikeys who have done this. It could be just low life theiving scum!! ::) ::) >:( >:(

when they shutdown air traffic control round the corner here there was more security than people working there, apparently there was so much cable which was made of gold, and some of copper and lead. thats its value run into millions.

When I was in South Africa 4 years ago and they complained about cables being stolen I was amazed! Can't believe it's happening here now. :(

Whatever the antecedents of the thieves, theft is a detestable crime.
Very frustrating news indeed Bob. [smiley=thumbdown.gif]

They have even been known to steal manhole covers from the middle of the road for the scrap value. This type of thing kills people.
Im in agreement with Millwall, on this one. :y

ive no time for thieves, they come round sites trying to sell powertools they have nicked off other sites, and having been a victim on many occasions at work, they definatly get told where they can go when they turn up, and not in a nice way either ;)

couldn't agree more with what's being said these bastards deserve shooting they do nothing for society except cause misery at the tax payers expense >:(

It has been going on for years. The authorities/ big companies just haven't been open about it. Maybe from fear of more enterprising souls jumping on the free meal bandwagon. I suspect it isn't pikeys either specifically.
Of course the scrap metal business is one of the last businesses in the UK that works on cash only. I wonder why that is? Wouldn't you have thought that new rules could have been brought in to have scrap "contributors" show ID and be paid by cheque that was then traceable. Oops, too complicated for successive governments more interested in rights, rules and other regulations.

They have been electrocuted in the past while theiving
-
We had no electricity for a day and a half a couple of months ago because the thieving gits stole the huge nuts bolting down the electricity pylons !
-
There police need to be calling in on the local scrapyards. If they find any of said cable (easily indentified), then they should
beat them about the head with their truncheons prosecute them.

Although the power to the neighbours was restored quite quickly, we - Heinz - were without useable power till Friday afternoon. We were rationed to 6kVA(?) which was just about enough to run cookers out in turn. Apparently it cost us £millions due to low life nicking the oil drain plugs from just 2 transformers, the oil was just left to drain away. >:(

We have loads of that lying around at work from the cable recovery winches we hire out. Certainly not the lightest cable in the world.
The best i've seen yet was the cable we pulled ashore in Hayle on the Wave Hub Project. 75kg a meter & solid copper (Pikey heaven) i love one of them to dig it up & try to cut it with thousands of volts travelling up it 8-) ;D

Must confess, the day it happened I was called heartless because I said it served the Thieving Pikey right, even though the family were denying that was what they were doing. Couple of days later, most people agreed with me ::)

They got to get money from somewhere to buy their brand new 4x4s and pay for their huge weddings? right??? oh and their caravans Too. Do you think they gonna get a job?? Their Idea of an honest days work is -DONT GET CAUGHT
-
The thing is, the cable they nick has to be sold on somewhere and that would have to be a scrapyard or metal dealer which are probably also run by pikey's, so why the hell don't the police target these places???
Probably too scared! :-?

Can't say for all forces but certainly one of the Dog Handlers in Hampshire wasn't happy about having to put his dogs into a site occupied by travellers ::)

Sadly it wouldn't work. They would just say we haven't time to check everything that comes in here mate. Like I said above "Of course the scrap metal business is one of the last businesses in the UK that works on cash only. I wonder why that is? Wouldn't you have thought that new rules could have been brought in to have scrap "contributors" show ID and be paid by cheque that was then traceable. It isn't rocket science to solve the problem. As it is the police know who the culprits are and the offending yards but cannot under the law do anything about it.

Yes times change without doubt.
In times past a section or two of SPG (Special Patrol Group) would have covered investigators making enquiries in such sites.
Had any of the natives shown their dissatisfaction by engaging in violence they were treated to a practical demonstration in 'positive reinforcement'.
Although I'm quite an open-minded soul (by necessity) I must say that, as a group, a substantial number of 'Pikeys/travellers/gypsies' seemed quite adept at avoiding answering questions in any meaningful truthful way.

A bit like politicians, then! ;)

Quite possibly another group the SPG (were it still to exist in its original and best form) would need to 'speak' to.
