Before im a dad, due date is 24th december and lately i have been deep in thought trying to believe im going to be a dad. Speaking about it and becoming one all of a sudden seems like 2 very different things indeed.
Were expecting a little girl and the closer the due date gets the more i am realising Bloody ell im really going to be a dad!!! ;D Im totally besotted with our baby and our bump, every kick or movement renders me speechless! i still worry for my unborn because i fear for any complications that may become apparent at birth.
I know i am talking to many other fathers on the OOF and you probably know whats going through my head.
I know im going to be an emotion wreck (happiness) when baby comes but i cant wait. Even writing this Thread i have a massive smile on my face.
How did other OOfer Fathers get on with your first borns?

Not having fathered children (to my knowledge at least) I'm afraid I can't be of much help Dan, although I would imagine the range of emotions you're presently experiencing are quite familiar to those on the Forum who have already done so.

That sounds about normal to me Dan :y

It'll take a very very long time to wear off. Just don't ever let your little girl try to wrap you around her little finger ........ much! ;D ;D

The pregnancy for me was one of the best and worst times in my life. We had the 20 weeks scan and they found two soft markers (this is a term they use) the first was shadowing on the left side of his heart and the second was i dilated kidney. This pointed towards down syndrome they did talk us through all the options and abortion wasn’t an option for me and my wife so every two weeks we had a trip up to kings hospital to see how he was progressing. The doctors told us he will need to be closely monitored when he was born. This was one of the worst experiences i have ever had every time we see them they seemed to have worse news for us. Any way as time goes by we reached the due date and the wife was induced on as she also had high blood pressure due to the pregnancy. But when my son Jack was born a healthy little baby boy it was the happiest day of my life. When he was 3 months old he had an operation to sort his kidney out at Great Orman Street. He is now nearly 2 and he is my little star i don’t know what i done without him. He still has to go for mag 3 scans every now and then but to us there is nothing wrong with him. After seeing all the other children at the hospital you realise that compared to some poor children his is only minor. Being a dad is the best job in the world but you do have to work hard at it there will be sleepless nights and a lot of nappies to change but it is all worth it and do as much as you can don’t just get in from work and sit down have fun with your child bath them and feed them and do as many things as you can. And the important one for me is have time on your own with them to bond I took jack every where with me even when he was tiny if I wasn’t at work Jack was with me.

That must have been a very tough time for you. Glad it was a Happy Ending :y :y

It was a very tough time mate but it makes him even more special in my eyes. He is a brave little sod. I wish you the best and hope all goes well for the mother and baby. My wife was in labour for 48 hours and in that time i had no sleep at all and when jack was born i nearly fainted and had the doctors and nurses running after me lol so make sure you sleep as much as you can before the baby arrives because you will need to have a few hours stored up for when the baby arrives and theres no getting them back lol

we have 5 between us and everyone is precious. Things will never be the same again though (you'll certainly not be a rich feller for a while ;D)and fatherhood will change you in terms of your levels of patience, responsibility and what some would simply call "maturity".Just dont make the mistake I made and spend too much time at work . I missed too many school plays or sports days, even some birthday parties and you cant get those times back. Learnt my lesson just in time I guess and Im far more family orientated with little un now than I was when the older ones were younger. Anyhow, very best wishes to you and your partner and enjoy your little girl-and any more that follow :y

..... and remember that when she has you up at 2 or 3 in the morning when she's little, she'll likely do the same when she's 18, staggering in from a club!! When they're little is the easy bit. just wait till they're late teens! ::) ::) ::)
;D ;D ;D ;D

Oldest is now aright little madam.
We had lots of scares with the twins including twin to twin transfusion

once that baby comes out thats when you get emotional. you become a dad straight away and becoming a parent kicks in. things are never the same ever again.
