Title: "Houston the omega has landed"
Post by: des.allen on 16 November 2010, 18:58:01
My omega today clocked up 238875 miles which is the average distance to the moon! I wonder if it will make it back?

That's fantastic! :y

I wonder, though, how many miles a average, well-looked-after family car would do if folk weren't so intent on trading them in after three years. People just don't 'love' their cars any more.

Put her megane coupe next to an omega and it would look like they came from different centuries......which, as it happens, they do. ;D

Puts me in mind of a rear bumper sticker that was around many years ago it read "this car may be old but at least it's in front of you and paid for"  :)

there is something to be said as regard some manufacturers build quality years ago compared to modern equivalents.
80s mercs and beemers much better paint than 90s examples.
these days like everything else, disposable cameras.

Mine's not as high as yours but close at 170,000!!

I left it standing for 4mths whilst overseas, came back and MOT'd it and passed with a caution on a rear tyre change. Well chuffed.   ;D

Thanks for all the replys, I think this car would have been in the scrappy by now without the help of Elite Pete and a good few others on here! This site is a godsend.
it was in a right state when i bought it and it was obvious it hadnt been serviced for a long time, but it now seems to be running great on both gas and petrol.
Just need to talk to Pete to see if he feels like having a gearbox oil shampoo ;) and that should complete the major stuff that hadnt been done :y
