Title: the age for nostalgia...
Post by: jerry on 21 November 2010, 21:16:34
As I approach my 50th I find myself getting ever more nostalgic. Recently got bought some DVDs of tv programmes and movies from my childhood inc the johnny weissmuller/maureen o'sullivan Tarzan collection (always seemed to be shown on a saturday morning along with old flash gordon and laurel and hardy films), the usual gerry anderson stuff, Belle et sebastien and The Flashing blade. Trying to get hold of Voyage to the bottom of the sea and land of the giants but theyre mostly US import only. Anyhow, watched a couple of episodes from The Flashing blade tonight. All very hammy now but nice to wallow in a bit of childhood nostalgia. The better half thinks im just sad of course  ;D. Anyone else remember it-and its theme song ?

I'm too young to remember most of those.. but I started (re-)watching Buck Rogers recently.. oh boy, it did not seem nearly as camp as it does now when I originally watched it ;D

What about The Prisoner?

Look out for the giant white bubble!

how could I forget the soup dragon! a classic that one Z. Seriously though, looking back I reckon we had far more variety with the kids tv shows than they do now, even though they look decidedly hammy/amateurish when viewed today. Dont get me wrong , I really like stuff like spongebob but a lot of kids tv these days is quite samey in comparison to 60s tv.(having said that, the same could equally be said about 60s music, encompassing as it did The beatles/ dylan/hendrix/ stones/ blues/motown/stax/soul ).
