unfortunately Britain takes the EU too much to heart over here in Austria you are still allowed to climb a ladder at work without a harness,( imagine that!) but slowly the insanity does start but it will take a while we now have segregation for smokers in restaurants but most places blatantly ignore these rules they don't have smoke police over here! what a waste of money all this beuracracy is it never ceases to amze me.

Yes, we're fighting a constant onslaught of total cr@p from both Europe and the "Campaign Against Aviation" at the moment. >:(

The problem is these desk jockeys think that what works for a 747 will work for a model aircraft, a hot air balloon and anything in-between.

Clearly not one of these r.soles has ever bothered to fly in a glider and thereby realise what a load of complete rubbish they are pushing. >:(

"Acrobatics" does get rather tricky whilst strapped in a glider, I find. Aerobatics being more fun, generally. ;D.. And in their "one size fits all" strategy it's, of course, "dangerous" and only to be carried out by the elite.  Back to the 747 mentality. Well, without an engine to upset and in an aircraft that's stressed to cope with a few G it's actually very good practice for that day when you have to recover the aircraft from an "unusual attitude" IMHO.

Time for some gratuitous YouTube links.. ;)

Firstly, very impressive flying, those pilots know exactly what they are doing, in tune with their machine.

I think the EU don't really have a clue what they are doing. Another of their follies is banning lead in solder, which will increase the failure rate of almost all electronic assemblies, the lead being ductile tends to stretch when things get hot so it absorbs any differential movement. The replacements are not very good at absorbing movement due to heating (hello Xbox owners, sounds familiar ?), they tend to use silver a lot, and silver mining is definately very bad for the environment.

So the EU wants to ensure all activities are carried out by people that are fit and fully competetant for the job. Fine lets start with them. All MEP's that want to have any say on anything chemical must be fully qualified (to degree or doctorate level ) in Chemistry. Anyone that wants to have any say on anything Physical must be fully qualified (to degree or doctorate level ) in Physics. Anyone who wants to have any say on anything Financial must be fully qualified (to degree or doctorate level ) in Accountancy. Etc

That about rules out the lot of them, no one really knows what they are talking about, yet they can make rules that change the way things work.

We need people in the EU who actually know what they are talking about.

I watched a load take off from Culdrose in August - nice to watch - got it on HDV somewhere.

I wonder when they will tackle kites?

It COULD happen, especially stunt kite owners.

Better not affect my rubber band planes either.

Oh, there goes that vein in my temple again. ;D

You have a good point, though, Ken. We have career politicians making decisions on subjects outside their limited sphere of understanding (getting rich through expenses) based on presumption and "it works for so-and-so" rather than briefing from the real experts in the field.

They will have them carrying SSR transponders each with their own unique 24 bit id, I kid you not. ;D

What's a ladder ???  :-? Not even allowed to use them in my work place now. You have to get a cherry picker if you want to go up in the air and you have to have been trained on it and have a harness and a hard hat.
Even worse I had to get an electrician the other day. Not because of a major problem but because a machine had tripped an MCB! I mean FFS The company trust me with programing cnc machines and robots but they won't let me flick a switch  >:(
