looks like the new boss is as bad as the old boss in N Korea, whats he doing? hopefully its nothing more than posturing, I just worry the new leader might feel the need to prove himself.....he doesnt strike me as being a particularly balanced individual - but to be fair, with Kim Jong Il as a parent...who would, of course technically its his grandad who still rules N Korea from beyond the grave....bunch of nutters :(
-
Extremely dangerous nutters mate! :(
-
again start was from north koreans side :(
-
cant think of kim jong thesedays without thinking of that bit in "Team America" where he sings "ronery, Im so ronery.." ;D :y

I could see a nuke being detonated :( :(

I'd agree with Opti, the only difference is N Korea is backed by China rather than the USA - but they're both dangerous rogue states who've shown little regard for the outside world :o

I assume you mean Israel is being backed by the US rather than NK.
In that case I'm sorry to say that I must disagree with you as well BJ.

It is entirely your prerogative to disagree ...Zulu.. :y :y
However..... Israel is a nuclear superpower that is dismissive of international law...and public opinion....and this makes Israel dangerous in my eyes.
Sadly....Even Obama has little influence over Israel... :-/ :-/

Why does the world community put up with the Pyongyang regime; they`ve been sabre-rattling for years.....`kidnapping girls from Japanese beaches in he 70/80`s.....the 'submarine incidents' and more recently the torpedoing and sinking of the South Korean corvette.
The North Korean regime must have a short memory; for, only in the last few years did we 'Imperialist devils' give aid their starving peoples during successive famines. :-?
I fear where is all this is leading? :'(

WW III possibly.. My American colleague behind me tells me that if South Korea goes to war with North Korea then by the terms of their treaty, the US will have to go to war as an ally of South Korea..
Which means China will, of course, step in as an ally of N. Korea.
No doubt we'll get dragged in with the US either as part of the UN or as part of our 'special relationship'
And it'll all be downhill from there.
The end of the world is nigh!

You cowardly knaves. Where's your spine gone? I hope it does kick off. Now, where's my .303?

Actually I don't think they would.
Why support a power mad dwarf when it will cause a world war and lose a lot of your countries income.
The Chinese are making a fortune being the manufacturers they are, going to war will lose that and risk their annihalation

Great point- the world is too economically linked for a full scale global nuclear war nowadays....I mean imagine the west decided not to pay China all the trillions we owe it? so North Korea may be truly "wonely", thats not to say WW3 wont happen as North Korea is bat-sh1t crazy :o

What makes you think that any country would support N Korea to the brink of war? Negotiation is the buzz word for now, but sooner or later they will have to either be accomodated or put in their place.
The leadership of N Korea and certain other 'rogue' nations is backward and acts like a petulent child. They do not have the capability to cause any damage out side of the immediate region, despite the rhetoric, and will play up at every opportunity.
The worrying thing is that if we don't slap their behinds now, then they may gain the capability to cause trouble further afield.

Both China and Russia can ill afford a full scale re-opening of the Korean War as both fear, as much as we do in the West, a nuclear exchange taking place.
Indeed today both those nations have made it clear publically that there is a need for calm and a stepping back away from hostilities. China and Russia are in a completely different place than there were 30 years ago, with no keeness for a nuclear exchange with the West. ;) ;)

I'm afraid we need some other languages for the truth .. I listened some different aspects of the event.. and south korea dont seem to be innocent.. and also the media :(

i'd be amazed if S Korea started it Cem - unless by accident (an embarrasment for the US weapon makers??) so a cover-up is always possible.......in this case tho highly unlikely - but I'm open to the truth as always :y

Russia is now on the wests side, China too dependant so NK is a possible nuclear test zone

Yes, I agree with that.
In terms of the NK action there is of course much history of conflict between it and SK and as you say, SK was (and has been) conducting military exercises in that region of the Yellow Sea.
I would imagine that the conflict (if any at all) would be restricted to the region, in any case China has friendly relations with SK so I can't see them letting things get out of control.
I see this as yet another gambit in Pyongyang's continuous effort to coerce the US and UN into granting concessions in relation to the present level of sanctions placed against it for attempting to push ahead with their nuclear programme.
The uranium enrichment facility - if one exists - is another part of this breast-beating exercise and bears the potential marks of K J Un (Il's son and successor)

although I decided not to mention that subject,
may be it would be not that bad idea to draw a line on the wall (translation from my language sorry) for future..
after the next elections of usa , war winds can again start .. because the system needs that for the economy, although may sound contradictory.. :-/

Don't forget to also take all your internal doors off their hinges and position in pairs as 'A' frame shelters for one ::) ::) ::) ::)

Once I get my house finished I'm building a triple garage in the garden with two roller doors and a pit.
I've got it all planned out, I'm doing the work myself got it all costed, quite cheap I enjoy the work.
Anyway, the pit 9" concrete in bottom, concrete blocks all round, aluminium wall ties tied into 9" concrete all round, surrounded by clay, in a valley.
Work on the beasts/survive a nuclear blast. NBC suits, homegrown, wood burner with massive supply of fuel. It's coming :-/

Fancy building mine when you're done with yours, Geoff? ;)
-
I remember the Cold War years and the following is just a piece from a drama documentary shown by the BBC in 1983 that demonstrated what would happen on the day the bomb(s) dropped on the UK. At the time it was very real and frightening, and the second half of this documentary demonstrated frighteningly how in the following days / weeks / months it was best not to survive the initial blasts!

See my post Geoff on the documentary of 1983 and you will NOT wish to survive the initial blasts. Survival would not be a long term option, and any 'life' salvaged would be a most unpleasant living death :'( :'(

Read Nevil Shute's book "On The Beach" .......
You will realise the futility of any form of "life expectancy" after a nuclear world war ...
-
I've got it all planned out though. My house is right next to the river, a mile from the sea. I'd be away in a boat. The N.E. I can't imagine being an important target, yeah sure we'll get fallout. I'd have my crash pack and be away up the river, North Scotland, Orkney Islands, Iceland, who knows?
Well depending on where gets hit, I'll be away. With my respirator and NBC suit. Using my dosemeters to measure radiation. I'll be happy if i can live through it even if I do become a ghost - read about that, it's not very pleasant at all. I'd see myself off in a dignified way depending how serious it was. Wouldn't want an aggressor to finish me.

Indeed Entwood, and made into the famous film of the same name. It sent shivers down my spine when I first saw it as a child!! :o :o :o
The last part of the film showing the characters in the film preparing for the inevitable, with a boy friend commander of an American submarine going back to death in their home country:

Indeed, a world of politicians, senior civil servants, royals, oligarchs, nuclear defence operatives and heavily-bearded men from Montana........oh, and lots of cockroaches, all to begin a brave new world together. ::)

Yes, what a terrible situation we have where some of the best minds/the most money/most time and effort goes into creating weapons, never mind weapons like these. What terrible things nuclear bombs are, what anti-human would create these?

logically , a zone covered with nuclear radiation would be useless some hundred years or more.. and if the winner survives , the environment would be extremely hazardous for long long years.. and you cant eat any vegetation or animal from that area..
I hope people think that before pushing the button..

The kind who'd say this:
My part in producing the atomic bomb consisted in a single act: I signed a letter to President Roosevelt, pressing the need for experiments on a larger scale in order to explore the possibilities for the production of an atomic bomb.
I was fully aware of the terrible danger to mankind in case this attempts succeeded. But the likelihood that the Germans were working on the same problem with a chance of succeeding forced me to this step. I could do nothing else although I have always been a convinced pacifist. To my mind, to kill in war is not a whit better than to commit ordinary murder. (Albert Einstein, 1952)
(I know, I'm reaching a bit, considering he didn't actually help design them.. ;))

Nuclear weapons are a paradox.
On the one hand they are the most useless weapons of all, since wars are usually fought for control of land/economy/populace, each of which would seriously damaged, if not wiped out altogether in the event they were used. It is arguably this scenario which has prevented their use since WW2. I believe also that this is the viewpoint of most advanced/democratic nations. It could be argued, therefore, that nuclear weapons are weapons of peace, since the existence of "mutual assured destruction" (MAD) keeps an effective lid on hostilities.
On the other hand, though, they are excellent weapons of terror and if a nation's powerbase is threatened, with no hope winning either a fight war or, domestically, a political battle, there could be some who would use it as a suicidal act of defiance. Such countries might be identified among the dwindling number of rogue states and, of course, terrorists, for both of which groups the future is of little relevance and a "glorious" death is honourable.
One hopes that the latter group are squashed or overthrown, for they are the dangerous ones.
Nuclear weapons are then, paradoxically, both the best peace enforcers and the most dangerous weapons ever. However, they exist. The genie is out of the bottle and no nuclear-capable nation would agree to surrendering them whilst there are those who can make them and use them. Even if all the countries of the world agreed to scrap them, what guarantee would there be that someone, somewhere, would be secretly building them? None.
That's why, sadly, we have to keep our deterrent, despite the cost.

OK can we stop with the end of the world stuff or I will bring back the bus thread..... :( :( :(

Agreed Nickbat, we are in this situation now there is no getting out of it. I'd like to think if our great nation was attacked with nuclear weapons that we'd counter attack to assure the M.A.D. of our enemies. Hahahahahahahaha

I agree wholeheartedly with you Vamps. :y
Whether it's skirmishes around the world, "global warming" or swine flu, there are always the doom-mongers ready to crawl out of the woodwork, with their visions of Armageddon. In fact sometimes, you'd be forgiven for thinking that they actually enjoy being so negative...(even though they are consistently wrong). ::)
I think there should be some OOF members parading up and down Oxford Street with signs saying "The End of Your Crank Sensor is Nigh".
They would, after all, stand more chance of being right in their prophecy. ;) ;D

Regarding Israel, this is one of those occasions when I will have to completely disagree with you Opti. I'm sad to say.

I have heard some ludicrous nonsense in my time, but........ :o ::)

Israel defend themselves with carefully considered action, and sometimes the best form of defence is attack. I fully support Israel. Imagine if they caved in, the situation there would be a whole lot worse if they should any sign of weakness.
I don't think you can compare the two. NK is run by a crackpot!
Israel just defends itself from terrorist scum, and unfortunately for them, Israel have the upper hand, which I for one am pleased about.
Consider this: 'you don't see many jewish suicide bombers.'

Regarding Israel, this is one of those occasions when I will have to completely disagree with you Opti. I'm sad to say.
I'd agree with Opti, the only difference is N Korea is backed by China rather than the USA - but they're both dangerous rogue states who've shown little regard for the outside world :o
I have heard some ludicrous nonsense in my time, but........ :o ::)
I think we should save the "Israel is a rogue state - discuss" thread for the next time they flout international laws and human rights....shouldn't be long now :y

We had that discussion a while back, and I seem to remember you were on the losing side -again. ;) :D ::)

OK can we stop with the end of the world stuff or I will bring back the bus thread..... :( :( :(
I agree wholeheartedly with you Vamps.
They would, after all, stand more chance of being right in their prophecy. ;) ;D
Nick, capitalist system always need new markets and lands to invade.. or else it will fail and come to a halt like it did before and then and now..
because markets are not infinite deep to consume all goods , neither the fields or mines are infinite to supply the necessary raw material..
remember in 1930 during the crisis the rules and laws applied all were reverse until the war began..
and same is true now.. all precautions applied are state control origin to prevent the system from a complete crash.. but imo they cant continue like that forever, a new war will clear most of the economic problems.. dont know why that sounds very familiar to me from history (some hundred years ago) ;D

The Palestinians fight with what they have...(as would any other country) ...In their case it is usually a few kids throwing stones.....some antiquated WW2 rockets and yes ...their lives too....Israel is an irresponsible nuclear superpower which sadly employs the same "Might is right" foreign policy that the American's love so much.
Israel should learn a little contrition...some hope.. :-/ :y

They dont fight for what they have. They try and succeed in murdering innocent people. You seem to be talking this murder down. Antiquated WW2 rockets, they still kill people.
