Post by: Mr Skrunts on 25 November 2010, 11:49:56
Is forcast for friday but had had our 1st sighn of it last night, went out to collect my girlfiend at 11.30 and the car was frosted over, but as we were driving arround midnight could see snow falling (lightly) by 3am the cars were dusted over with snow.

I might have replyed with her stats, but not going to bother now.

But allthough not a GG I have allways said personallity is more important than Bra Size and if she had only been blessed with an A cup then so be it.

But she can cook, clean, and do all the usual stuff that a lot of "Todays women" cant cope with, she loves baking, used to make event cakes for a living.  Loves repairing cars and is enjoying being taught have to build and repair computers.  The list gets better the more I get to know her.

She's one in million opti and has become very special to me, so will be a very happy new year for me this time round. ::)

I drive my Miggy quite a bit on snow and have found that TC is more-often better disabled when driving just in snow (but not when on ice)....inertia is helpful to keep the car from 'bogging' into the snow; the TC seems to take all the much-needed inertia out of the car, just when it`s most useful, especially when going uphill at slow/medium speeds. ;)

I liken it to driving in soft sand, all the text-books say: "slowly-slowly, catchy monkey"....but in reality it`s better to "go-go-go!" ;)

Had it up here for the last two days.

Made my morning pretty miserable, took 2 hours to 'travel' 1 mile.

Tell me about it.....Fine in Co Durham till I get to the border, noticed this before Cleveland (Stockton, Middlesbrough, Hartlepool and Redcar) too tight to grit properly, Ice under the snow on main roads, took be an hour and a half to get into work, usually 20 to 30 minutes....... :-X

The Omega in the snow, terrible till I found the snow button, could not believe the difference..... :y :y

The conditions weren't too bad, just traffic and people incapable of driving really.

Can't tell whether my snow button switches on/off.  So I just stick in 3rd, which I'm told is the same effect.

It's not meant to keep traction while still putting the power down to wheels with most grip, like a proper traction control. All it does it cut power when it senses a loss of traction (spinning wheel), to stop people who cannot drive properly having a crash

It couldn't be further from the truth.
Snow button will set the car off in 3rd gear and it'll stay there till ....... 25/30mph :-/*. You move the selector to 3 and all you're doing is telling the gear box to go through the gearbox as normal & stop when you get to 3rd gear. Like wise if you stick in 2 than it stops changing at 2nd and stays there. Setting off in 3rd ie snow mode limits torque to driven wheels to help prevent slip.

*or boot it and operate the kick down switch & it'll knock snow mode off.

I want to see more snow pics :D

And esp for Andy B, I find the combo of snow mode and TC to be quite effective. Won't overcome being daft, but helps non the less.

Post 1998 cars (the ones with the fragile ECUs) attempt to apply the brake to the spinning wheel before cutting 2 cylinders. Pre 1998 just cut power (as it cannot control each rear brake independently).

Either way, I know Andy B will slip on his rose tinted specs, and claim that the Senator never needed it :P

Joking aside, Andy B, seeing as I seem to have more success with TC than you, if it could be related to the brakes - I eat rear pads like they are going out of fashion (new to metal in less than 2 years normally).  Wondering if it works better with Tradeclub (softer) pads?  Or all the servicing my rear brakes get (due to constant MOT issues)?  I have really abused mine - silly stunts like a 0-80mph standing start on a slippery surface, and its held it).  I was debating this with chrisgixer the other night, but he was too phished to join in ;D

It didn't need TC to do over 180 degs, it could do it all by itself  ;)

Mine are tradeclub pads  :-/
I just know that TC won't let me get up the slight hill I live at the top of due to nannying & cutting power when it might be better to just let things slip while you're at  least still moving.

Mine are tradeclub pads  :-/
I just know that TC won't let me get up the slight hill I live at the top of due to nannying & cutting power when it might be better to just let things slip while you're at  least still moving.
There are times when slip is more effective than no slip, in the same way that there are occasions when a locked up wheel is better than an ABS controlled wheel when slowing down...

Indeed. I noticed that effect a few time last year in the snow when using the crappy Astra which didn't have ABS. It's since gone to a scrap yard in the sky at Pimhole and its replacement does have ABS. I don't suppose I'll be able to play from now on  ;D  ;D
