Title: Number Plate Surround
Post by: SMD on 28 November 2010, 13:53:39
Does anyone have pictures of these on their cars?

Also has anyone tried fixing their number plates using double sided sticky pads or velcro? How secure is the front plate as the bumber is slightly curved. Can you post some pictures of these too?

Thanks

Thanks

Both my plates are held on with the double side sticky pads. As you say about the curved front plate, you do have to make sure that everything is as clean as you can get it so that it stays put. The area behind the plate wouldn't allow for the full length of pad I bought fromHalfords (http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_203489_categoryId_165562_langId_-1?cm_sp=Intelligent_Offer-_-Product_List_Zone_1-_-Blank&iozone=PLPz1) so I cut them as long as I could & used the remaining bits elsewhere behind the plate. I have had to replace them onece due to the curve, but they did last for years before needing replacement.  :y

I have a chrome surround on my rear plate, to go witht the chrome trim in the bumper, but using a surround on the front prevents the plate from curving with the bumper. It also looks a bit silly on the front imo.

I use 3M trim tape for the number plates, give the surface a good clean with autoglym tar remover then resin polish, the tape sticks like dog poo and Ive never had a plate fall off.

pic is quite old, but gives the general idea

Thanks for the replies. I'm thinking of going the sticky tape route. How good is the Halfords tape? Do you need one pack for each plate Andy?

I heard some people use No More Nails tape. Does anyone have any experience using this?

Vauxfan, those cleaning products sound expesive. Is there anything cheaper I can use?  ;D

A pack consists of 3 strips so you need a pack per plate, a pack also has a sachet with an alcohol type wipe with it, so you don't need to buy anything else.  :y
