I'm actually keeping this one. It's just an old estate but it drives better than any i used to abuse in my teens. It's had a negative earth/alternator conversion, front discs & is unbelievingly smooth & quiet to drive. I think being an estate it's never been a repmobile, the boy racers did'nt want it so it's survived.
Not everyones cup of tea i know but i'm a Cortina man through & through, they're an English icon & i adore them!!! 8-)

looking gr8 :y :y :y
-
you found a really good one there guy. great buy. :y
lotus gear knob aswell. ;)
-
That is a really lovely example Guy! :y :y :y :y :y
Not sure about the estate version not being repmobiles though. In the retail trade it was the estate that became a favourite amongst field staff, especially the Mk2's to Mk5's so it could have been used on business ;) ;)

Nice car ... dad had one in Duke of Edinburgh blue ( I think) with a grey infill.
-
Thats a smart car alright, the only thing wrong with that I can see is the furry dice hanging from the rear view mirror ::)
-
I guess some estates did rep service but most were saloons. I think this was a lucky one & bought new as a family car. It shows 78k & the diff does'nt whine!!! I bought the Lotus gearknob as the original was marble sized...tiny! The door bottoms need a look & the finish on the roof is'nt up to scratch so we're going to paint the lot in the spring, ame colour with an old english white side stripe & a Lotus badge on each rear panel just to match the wooden steering wheel i hav'nt bought yet. I've got some chrome headlight "eyebrows" ready, looking for a badge bar for the front bumper, a screen visor, apair of period spot lamps with the blue bit in the middle & a set of Lotus 5.5j' steelies & chrome inserts. 8-)

ALL classic cars should have furry dice hanging from the mirror, 'tis cast in stone. NEVER in a Mig though!! ::)

Hmm, got a couple of those in the garage, from a 1966 GT, I did have 4 but had two on a trailer that got stolen some years ago.... >:(
Great car Guy........ :y

Looks a great project Guy :y I'm probably "teaching me grandma to suck eggs" but check out the rear wheel arch inner chassis members for metal mice when I worked in re finishing I saw a good few that needed plating and welding.

No worries Tony. I've been contacted by another Cortina owner warning me the sills may be bodged & it's got fibreglass wings, he owns 2 cars with nearly the same reg! MOT sept 11. If it needs sills or rear inners done we'll do it then buy a shultz adapter. I'll know it's been done properly then with seam welds. Dagenham dustbins are why i'll never be rich..........Old Fords never die!!! 8-)

Exactly the same as my dear old Dad had right down to the colour as well even remember the reg. no. HHT 129D. Nice motors :y :y

not my cup of tea, but my dad had a blue mk2 estate which we all loved - didnt like cold mornings i remember but used to take me, my 2 sisters and 3 cousins in the boot with mum dad aunt and uncle in the seats - great fun for a day out - nowadays it would be mad..it was then too i guess....:y

I've got ONE you're welcome to if need be. I'd be glad to see it used rather than in a drawer in the garage. :y :y

i also remember a hump back bridge my dad took great delight in accelerating towards and "getting air" over or "hold on - its funny tummy time!" as he called it ;D
aaah - the 70's 8-)
i think they based the dukes of hazzard on him, come to think of it :o

My Dad got a brand spanky new white mk2 1600 Super in 1968. I used to sit in the back between the front seats, one elbow on each. Unthinkable today. Then he got a brand new Mk3 1600L K reg. also in white, 1972.
They were both round the clock & knackered within 3 years. Cortinas were working vehicles as much as the Transits were...still are which is why a rare good one is worth hanging onto! 8-)

A mate in Sunderland e mailed me these pics of his mates saloon. Check the registration nos!! He also sent some of a white estate he's doing up but i won't bore you with those.
Nice to see two 1966 Cortinas that came from the same showroom in Croydon (where i was hatched) still looking good & going strong. Hoping to photo them together next spring. 8-)
