Title: what makes a worthy news story?
Post by: tunnie on 28 November 2010, 15:58:58
On Friday I awoke to see all trains on the Paddington main line stopped, there was one on the inside stopper line stopped, not near a signal, and another in the express tracks also stopped.

Thought it was odd, then heard the sirens and spotted a body on the tracks  :'(

I am on the 5th floor of 6 in my building, so gave a clear view. Too clear in fact  :(  :'(

Air-ambulance was called and it circled a few times, incredibly close to my flat, I wondered where it would land, it actually made a siren noise to alert traffic below on several attempts it tried to put down, but cars where still driving underneath, refusing to stop  :o  >:(

Bloody morons, only when plod arrived and secured the road did it  land, which the pilot did mostly looking out of the door  :o

Impressive bit of landing, once down, the space around the blades to lamp posts / lights was quite close.

Sadly it was not needed in the end  :(

I was so close I could see them going through her purse, but what makes it worse is there was no mention on any of the news channels, or even local London bulletins  :(

Sky had those students trashing London on their news all day, but this was never even mentioned  >:(

Sadly, it happens too often to be considered newsworthy.

What a sad story T but news editors have a habit of hunting much larger game. (In the guise of ratings)

Great photograph by the way. 8-) :y

Cheers, when I get hope i can upload some more, as I got the SLR out, managed to get very close to pilots.

I did get some of the removal process from the tracks, but i don't think i should post those

Impossible i think, it was on the Reading-bound side, so she either crossed the track to get to it, or jumped off the bridge.

Not sure it was related, but an old Deltic Loco turned up during the investigation  :o

Thought it might have been called to Tow the HST which hit the poor women. It came to Acton, but then reversed direction and went off towards Marylebone  :-/

See what you mean about the sound, he also did not spare the horses, it was quick off the mark. Picture to follow...

I don't think a day goes by when somebody doesn't intentionally or accidentally lose a fight with a train.  Only ever get coverage on slow news days.

The chopper would not have been allowed to hand on the highway until the police have closed it, no different to RTAs.

Impressive he got that down - we have regular air ambulance in the field out the back (amateur rugby is a bit more intense than the gay boys on the telly) - and seen them need a couple of attempts to get down on a rugby pitch if there is a decent breeze...

If it wasn't such a sad affair Tunnie I'd normally say what a stroke of luck seeing, and of course hearing, such a locomotive :)  That sound does stick in the memory! 8-) 8-) 8-)

I wonder what it was doing in those parts?  Did you catch any name or number for it Tunnie?

Mate of mine was diagnosed with terminal cancer, went straight from the hospital to the station and stepped off the platform infront of the the first express that past through.

Terrible for both of them, but must be worst for the driver.

oh and that shelter was where they put the body to try and ID it  :o

Bet passengers who stand in there now never think or know about what was in there just a few days go!

That is the worst part of these cases AA.  The driver will be affected for life by such a terrible event, but that morning it was just like driving trains on any other day :'( :'(

An uncle of mine drove London Tube trains for a while...............until 'a jumper' made that impossible for him! :( :(

Very bad for the drivers, unpleasant for the maintenance staff, and horrible for the wheelbarrow squad.

Yes that is what the Laira based people called the suicide clearing team for Hemerdon Bank.

For sound 1 x 50 on a 15 coach sleeper up that bank is amazing.
