Think it would sting at first before you went numb ;D ;D

Brrrrrrrrrrr..............it`s sooooooooo-cold! :'(
There`s ice on the inside of the windows this morning :o....`just having a warming cup of coffee before I brave the outside, to go `get a basket of wood to light the fire.

Now to me, that sounds delightful - it puts many things into perspective, especially those that surround the 'conveniences' and supposed advanced nature of modern-day living.
Treasure it Deb, we only do that which nature permits us to and to be able to function in such conditions, is an experience worth having. (In the wider scheme of things)

Been on exercise once for a week in -14C, know you know why I was in shorts and t-shirt the other day ;D
I agree, for all the mod-cons of modern life you cant beat a decent log fire in your front room :y
-
Agreed. Our heating is by radiators only, and although the room temp. is quite warm it doesnt feel warm. The sight of a roaring open fire makes you feel warm from the inside out. :y

You`re very perceptive z77....I do treasure the experiences that living here offers; it`s a unique place and even despite the challenge of providing daily needs at times like these, it brings one in touch with nature and our stoic antecedents. :y
One of my dearly-favourite books is "Alone in the Wilderness" ....Dick Proenneke tested himself against Alaskan solitude and found peace and happiness in an environment infinitely more harsh than anything the U.K can provide.

I loved that link - really chimed with me.
What a great display of workmanship, determination and regard for the environment. 8-) :y

I agree, I am often secretly jealous of Debs - cold outside, log fire, almost cut off from the world. Idylic.
But then, when I threw the duvet off this morning, the central heating had done its job (not that it is that cold around here - was minus 5C when I went out to get a chinky last night at 9pm)
-
On the bright side, we havent seen a single snowflake in these parts and that suits me just fine. :)

I agree, I had a week of it in Bulgaria last month and it was great to start with but was soooooooo glad to get back home to creature comforts ::)

....will add this to my "must read list".....I'm currently trawling through Imajica by Clive Barker ......more than 1100 pages in paperback.. :o :o....Hmmm...I'm not overly impressed.... Mr Barker has a rather verbose writing style.... ;)

ok.. here is temperature above 20 celcius which is definitely abnormal for this season..
there, you are freezing.. I do some google serach and the papers show that there is something changing in atlantic, flow speed changes etc etc..
are you still thinking the weather is normal ?

Yes, and no, the end of the world is not nigh, and yes, global warming is blown all out of proportion :P ;D

regardless of the scientists "you are wrong I'm right" debate and some groups abusing the weather conditions for more profit, there is really something happening.. weather fluctuations are more severe ,
and UK which I know has rarely seen snow, except north parts now faces early colds and snow.. I know some friends living in UK (except OOF) that never uses snow tire now thinks about it :-/

Yes, I'm inclined to agree with that.

another simple proof, I never see this much of cats sick at one time.. street cats and ours :-?
they cant adaptate to high temperature changes within a short time.. we passed many autumns but they never catch cold like that.. :(

I don't doubt that man is changing temps. I don't think its as dramatic as some claim. Remember, in the midle ages, Greenland was, errr, green. Unless those middle agers driving their 900AD Landrovers caused the ice to come down...
I do not think the weather is much different - its just we've been through 20-25yrs of more moderate temps, mild winters, cooler summers.

I blame that on the invention of bows and arrows.... ::)

I reckon it's all the hot air politicians spout, shifting air currents.
We need a cullohgodMI5isatthedoor...

We are now getting back to the winters that I remember when I was a child. My home town is regarded as one of the mildest places in the country as regards winter temperatures. That said in winter we frequently had numerouse snowfalls in exceeding several inches and temperatures dropping to many degrees below freezing.
Back to the traditional British winter

Speaking of which, anyone remember winter '78? I don't (since I'd only just been born ;D) but it looks just as bad, if not worse, than anything we've had recently:

The winter of '78 was in another league completely to the weather we are having now! More severe & prolonged snowfall & lower temperatures for an extended period & far & away more severe winds causing very heavy drifting & packed ice on roads etc. 1963 was another severe winter and even worse than 1978! :D ;)

I had a lot of adventures that year, including driving north up the south bound A1, with Police consent. North bound A1 was closed and cars stuck so walked to local villages, like ours and looked after in the pubs and village hall.......
On a particular weekend I was driving a ford Transit Pick up with 2 tonne of bottled gas on the back for a deliver on the saturday, that never happened but nothing stopped us going to rescue a Coach which we brought back from 2 miles away, the long way about 40 miles....... it's final few hundred yards was 3 feet at a time pulled by the rear bucket of a JCB... ::) ::)
My primary mode of transport was a company series Land Rover and I was young, we had a great time... :y :y
Oh and we went out if a Ford Corsair and got it well stuck and had to walk back, only to catch a bus that was turning round and going back.... :D :D

I'm openly jealous of Debs lifestyle harsh as it can be at times. I was brought up in a 400 year old cottage in rural west sussex from the age of 8. We were a well off middle class family but there was no central heating then, not even oil fired. We had a huge inglenook with a roaring open fire, storage heaters & a fan heater which went from room to room. We walked the dogs twice a day & between school i did a paper round, helped the Milkman, caddied @ the West Sx golf course & helped an old boy who cut down treea to make/deliver logs. Thought nothing of it & still don't. We need to toughen up a bit.
As a result TB i enjoy my central heating but still can't sleep with the heating on upstairs & have to have the windows open. That's only at night though!!!

We are the same... :) You are right Guy, we are getting too soft, in all ways..... :(
I often think back to an old guy I met in the early 80's, he lived in a cottage in the middle of nowhere in Northumberland. I met him when i had to go and fix his 'startomatic' Lister generator, he had an AGA and there was always a roast dinner on the go....... :y :y
