What do you think then?
Are the Wiki leaks people compromising the very fabric of the modern world by letting us all know what is being written in secret?
Or is it for the better as from now on people had better be more careful what they write?
Or it won't change anything!! ;D ;D
-
well someone must of given it to wikileaks, if they didnt want them published they should of shredded them. problem solved
-
I thought that The Guardian were going to be publishing them anyway?
But everyone is picking on wikileaks. They are just another form of media, albeit specialised. Could you imagine the Daily Mail refusing to print them in the name of National Security? Thought not :P
Whether they should be published is another matter. But any media would publish them.

I for one would really like to know what the states really thinks about the rest of us.
I have said for a couple of years now that the states is probably the most dangerous country in the world. It appears to be the typical spoilt child, 'if you wont give it to me I will take it' attitude.
It's support of israel without question, it's state sponsored terrorism, etc.
americans frighten me >:( and remember 70 years or so ago they had no interest outside there own borders, how things change ::)
-
No it's a bad idea in my view. Some thoughts on international diplomacy are better restricted.
This form of crusading revelation by WikiLeaks is ill-advised and will possibly lead to the deterioration in international relations between some countries just at a time when it's not needed.
There have been attacks on some people in Iran already although some more details need to be known before suggesting that these leaks were partly responsible.
-
However it will give the reast of the world some ammunition to handle relations with the US
-

So do 'we', don't we? I mean, it was us and the US who created Israel, no?
On the subject of Wikileaks, though.. apparently they had this to say about Burlusconi:
American diplomats, who interacted with him during their postings in Rome, describe Berlusconi as a "breakless, vain, and ineffective" leader in modern Europe.
According to my Italian colleague, they're spot on with their assessment ;D

Agreed, however that was many many years ago. I refer to more recent times. I cannot for the life of me think of any state terrorism that the UK is involved in (but please correct me if there is). By state terrorism in the states I refer mainly to there open support of the IRA in the past.
-
Stupid misguided moronic so called Irish Americans(mainly in the NYC and Boston areas) provided much of the funding for the IRA. Unprincipled opportunist politicians who relied on the Votes of such people also voiced their support, but the U.S. state never sponsored the IRA. ;)

It was interesting to learn that the Saudis (and other leaders in the region) have been imploring the U.S. to bomb Iran.
That could cause a few red faces to say the least.

top points goes to wikileaks and owner.. :y :y :y :y :y

and people.. I hope "if" god is there , save their souls :(

I agree with you Zulu. Of course, everyone will have a field day because it concerns US documents. I wonder what the response would be if they were documents leaked from other countries? These are confidential documents and there is no doubt that there will always be some documents that need to be kept secret. On a different level, but essentially in a similar vein, would anyone here like to have their private opinions of their colleagues freely aired to all and sundry?
No, I thought not. ::)

there is a saying in my language,
"something known by two, is never a secret" ;D :y

You are of course right Albs. My issue is the states never did anything to stop it.

Most of the leaks so far have been little more than tittle-tattle with only a small number standing out and thus being mentioned widely.
Personally I'm uncomfortable with this caper. As much as I find it distasteful that countries can behave in such a janus-faced manner I fear for the safety of people whose identities will inevitably be uncovered where they have already put themselves at risk in order to prevent mendacious activities by rogue states and individuals. The stance that names have been removed so their identities are protected is very poor as they are often identified through descriptions, locations and dates, meaning they are soon narrowed down. Overal I think it's misguided and the potential cost is not worth it.

It is an historical fact that much of what is said in 'secret diplomacy' is actually known by those being talked about. However they usually do not have any real confirmation of it and they are kept guessing.
This type of leakage is a "poor show"and not in the spirit of the game which diplomacy is! It's not done old chap, and not the act of gentlemen (or woman)!
The serious side is that if a nation cannot hold its secrets and future intentions, then it can pose a real threat to all.
I can think of occasions though in history when the diplomatic "truth" would have saved much future heartache and human suffering. That is the flip side ;) ;)

although not directly related , they pose a real threat to all..
however , I do believe there are also honest and good people that one day they will change the things :y

and at that point I must add Lizzie, all nations have dirty laundry in their past and now, less or more .. I hope they start to wash asap... ;D

On that point I am in complete agreement with you. :y

Indeed they do Cem, and thank God much of it will be kept highly classified for some decades to come or it could, even now, cause severe embarrassment! ;) ;)

Anyone who distributes material like this which puts soldiers' lives at risk of retaliation attacks or by having their security weaknesses exposed to the masses, all in the fickle pursuit of notiriety, exposure and a higher reader distribution, deserve to die slowly an agonising death several times over
-
its nearly an earthquake here ;D ;D ;D
all news are full.. I estimate even some important people from same party will fight between them ;D ;D
and their explanations are desperate and funny.. :-? :-?

I can't believe the lack of security if reports are true the man that obtained the files did so by inserting a blank disc in the computer and pretended that it was music and even sang along as he downloaded the files :o
