I've only had four. Two Mini Cooper S (Leyland not BMW) one never re-appeared. The other I hadn't actually noticed had gone. The police knocked on the door saying it had been abandoned after doing lots of "rallycross" in a field.
Capri recovered in Luton - exhaust system ripped off somehow. Radio gone plus everything else loose.
Mint Carlton CDX never recovered. Suspect stolen to order as it was taken from a locked car park with alarm armed and one of those (useless) Krooklok steering wheel bars. It was well over two years before I stopped looking for that car. Twas in fact after a holiday in S. Cyprus where there are loads of ex UK cars. If only our police liaised with their police........
Lost money on three of the four.
Maybe explains why the punishment for TWOC should be death (or worse) in my opinion. :y

I've voted never as I've not had one taken. Years ago I had a shed of a metro that I caught someone trying to break the ignition lock off. A couple of digs to the back of the head followed by slamming is fingers in the door disuaded him from continuing his efforts, and he fled in floods of tears. Doubt he's ever tried again ;D ;D

Had my Sierra Cosworth RS 500 go missing. Had it for 4 years, thought it was safe.. :-? 2 Alarms on it and still some cretin had it away.
Police not in the least interested, possibly as the one taking the report wasn't male. :-[ Never was seen again. Assessor reckoned some of it could have been circulating Brands Hatch as we spoke. I Told insurance company I did NOT want a payout, I wanted another RS 500 in same condition. 'We can't do that sir'. I'll bet you can't, paid £22,000 for it, it was absolutely mint, payout amounted to £9,500............. >:( >:(

Never had one stolen and won't *touch wood*, but I have was sold a Ford Granada years back, that was the real car but had a fake logbook (which me being a trader should've noticed really), someone else got a fake car but my logbook. Lucky for me I obviously had the real car as I do all those check before I do anything and being the genuine car I got to keep it, the othe rpoor fella didn't and it was scraped, that was £3500 of his money down the drain :o

I didn't go that far! Just the fingers on his right hand, I thought at the time, as the red mist cleared, that it'd stop him doing it again... at least until the swelling went down ;D ;D

I had my Escort Mk 1 1300E taken from outside my then girlfriend's house, wouldn't have been difficult as you could open it with anything resembling a key. It was a bit of a shed so I rang a couple of friends thinking it was a prank. The police found it about a week later on my birthday burnt out in a nearby field. The remains are still there about 18 years later :(
My second one was a diesel Fiesta that was taken from outside my present house about 7 years ago, containing a brand new pushchair and baby seat base which later turned up at the local market :( Whoever took the car also side-swiped 3 cars in the street on the way, and it was never seen again
-
i had my fiesta stolen about 15 yrs ago but silly idiot bragged about it. people like to brag and thats where they make the mistake. ;)

My first car, an '85 2.3 Granada lx with all the ghia x trimmings. Was recovered following am about 2 miles away. Tit who stole it couldn't drive, stuck it into a bank on a country lane and couldn't get it going again.
>:(Insurers screwed me over it, barstewards. they wanted me to pay the balance of my instalments before they would process the claim, then wanted me to pay them another £100 to cover the shortfall between their sh*tty valuation and my excess. >:( Told them in no uncertain terms what they could do with that idea. >:(
By the time I got the car back, it had been sat outside all winter with the windows open, so ended up scrapping it. :'(
Turned out that the delinquent kid from over the road had nicked it. He got his comeuppance a few months later when he stole his mums' Cavalier GSI. Killed himself and two mates in it. The fourth scrote, survived and coughed to being involved in several car thefts. Didn't replace my car though.
What goes around comes around :-/

Only ever had one car stolen. Was a Y reg Cavalier parked round the corner from my house. No central locking and deadlocks back then so someone just did a quarterlight and hotwired it.
Was recovered shortly thereafter as it ended up being parked in a private car park at a block of flats about 5 mins up the road and a resident reported it to the police.
In the end I lost the window and the factory fit stereo was gone, but there was an SLR camera in its place...even better was the fact that I paid £250 for it and then p/x'd it for £300 about a year later :y.

boozy night out in solihull high street.woke up int the morning, wheres my passion wagon?
realised i had left it there. no problem normally , only it was the last day before turning the area into a pedestrian zone with a big fanfair as the mayor of solihull was to be the last to drive down the high street..

Had a Mk1 Ford Granada nicked from a cinema car park years ago. Taxi home for me and girlfriend cost my last £15.
>:(
Police found car parked up a week later, not a mark on it. Tools still in boot, even loose change in glove pockets. They reckoned somebody just wanted a ride home. :o
It was found not far from where I bought it......... :-?

Not personally but the ex wife had 2 stolen!
I did work doing recovery though and Basingstoke police were good at catching the little scrotes in the act, but not until they'd trashed the car :'( :'(
-
I had a lovely MK. 2 Ashtray CD (H322 FDX) stolen around seven years ago. It disappeared off the drive, never to be seen again.

My old MR2 turbo nearly got nicked one night. It was facing down the street without its disk lock on, so asking for it really. Cat 1 alarm didn't go off either. Although when I inspected it later what a shower that was.
If it's any consolation I've caught quite a few car thieves and people breaking into cars. The last time followed a pair of them (they aren't the brightest people) then caught one and gave him to the police, then when I was 'struggling' with the other one on the ground the cop came along and did a running two footed jump on the back of his head causing his face to smash into the ground!!
Not that I condone violence, but that's what happens, he's lucky I caught him and not a nutter!

Mini, back in the sixties, stolen in centre of B'ham, found a week later in Small Heath area with no petrol.
A month later me and my mate found a guy with his head under the bonnet of it, trying to get it started, bet he'd think twice about trying to steal a car again! ;)
1980's, came across two lads trying to break into my Ford Granada, they ran off.
1990's had my Carlton 3.0 ltr 24v Gsi stolen off my drive, recovered two day's later with about £5K worth of damage - never the same car again, there had been 3 previous unsuccessful attempts to steal this car in various parts of the country.
-
Touch wood, no.
had a pushbike stolen, in 2 mins flat, was locked up, but not with the best of locks.
luckily was insured and I got a better bike out of it.
Back in my later school days.

Not strictly a car but.. many years ago.
Had my pride and joy BSA Goldstar stolen from outside my place in SE London, heavily chained up to a gate post, everything gone including the gate post....
Being now skint until insurance paid out I replaced it with a wreck of an AJS 350 single, oil slick underneath, no chrome left, worn tyres etc.
Two days later I discovered that the lock and chain had been stolen by someone but they had left the bike. :-[

Indeed ;D ;D
I have several experiences of them, especially when they try and nick cars/parts out of our alarmed compound :-X :-X :-X

Had a 2 year old Capri stolen in the mid 80's from outside my house. Never seen again and plod reckoned it had been broken for bits. It was a right result as I'd been trying to sell it and couldn't shift it for love nor money. Insurance came up with a first offer about £800 more than I'd been advertsiing. I nearly bit their hand off.

My first ever new car. A lovely black Ford Fiesta 1.6S was stolen after 5 days :'( :'( :'(
I called the police and was informed a few hours later that it had been all over the north east, including one stop for fuel!! I got the car back the next day. Only damage was the locking fuel cap and a door lock. I have no idea how they started it :o :o :o
A couple of years later my Peugeot 205 Gti 1.9 was broken into. The barstewards wrecked both door locks, steering column and almost the whole bloody dashboard trying to start it. They failed. Peugeot did a great job of repairing the car :y :y
Problem is, next year my insurance premium rose to £960. >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(
