took the Omega for a spin this afternoon - great fun.
-
Its just started to fall here too as bloody sleet tho.... might say a prayer for at least 2 foot by the morning so I dont have to go into work tomorrow night ;) ;D
-
It's been coming down here heavy since early this evening, and apparently it is going to go on into tomorrow.
I am starting to ask myself if I have ever seen it so bad before. It seems to be almost non-stop which is rare for the SE.
-
I blame all these people who drive around in big cars...The ozone can only take so much you know ::) :)

Just been out and the bit where my car was parked last night (no snow) now has about 4". :o

Save the environment, drive a v6!
-
about an inch here, very disapointing. ;D
-
Just been to take the wife to work at Heathrow, she got up before me and cleared the path and driveway. I got up an hour later and you couldent tell that the path had just been cleared :o
The back roads around here have about 8 inches of fresh snow at the moment but that will soon be dissapated by the morning traffic. M3 East was pretty clear, well 2 lanes at least, westbound had less traffic and was starting to snow over again. M25 and M4 into london both very clear right now.
Was in the wife's corsa though, with a little application of the handbrake it made the back roads a lot of fun ;D

Looks bad round by you kevin according to the news :o
-
was really excited about it snowing.... "yay, snow day and hopefully no work".... WRONG!
When ur old man is ur boss u dont really get any say in the matter. So, rather than risking my car, i walked in :'(
Last night was hairy to say the least tho... for those who know this area, Shaftesbury was a nightmare. only one side of the road gritted on the towns main road through and it happened to be the side i wasnt using >_<
sooo... about mid night last night i was crawling may way to the main road through shaftesbury, not much else about so i purposely driving on other side as it was gritted (until i car came along) and again, for those that know the area, as i came down under the fly over towards gillingham, i found that it was still only the other side that had grit... hazards on, fogs on, flashing full beam every now and then on some of the corners, coming down the opposite side as far as the transformer station to find that was it for the grit...
Gillingham was not gritted at all... i live on top of one of the hills and my wheels were near spinning all the time i was going up it...
anyway, BACK TO WORK i go :'(
-
Started snowing here about 11.30 last night, quite hard at first then stop start until about 3.00 this morning and after all that we've still only got a heavy dusting >:(
-
It must have all avoided Reading & Bracknell and poked off down to KW et al further down the M3.. this is all I was faced with this morning:
My road looked a bit like this - as you can see, not a lot happens down a dead end road when it snows and everyone else is either self employed or retired:
But once I got out the roads were basically clear & dry, the M3 and M25 were empty (back road through Ascot was blocked by three cars apparently) and I got to work in 30 minutes just like normal ;)
Must say I'm impressed by how docile the Omega is in the snow - if the rears spin up it just goes where it's pointing, nothing like trying to keep the MR2 going straight when it's continually trying to swap ends ;D

Indeed Aaron, and a quick corrective move with the steering always corrects any waywardness if it does happen. I have had some fun over the years, and now, with testing my skid pan skills and I find the Omega is a real joy. Yesterday I was parked facing the wrong way on an ice bound road in Canterbury. A quick swing of the steering wheel and a bit of extra power to the wheels and she turned the 180 degrees I wanted :D :D :D :D Great fun :y
-
Still snowing here, couple more inches overnight, but without actualy going out with a ruler its hard to tell how deep it actually is.
Local village they have seen 2 dustbin lorries out collecting, but I doubt they will get up my road tomorrow. lol

It was a good bit worse in Four Marks! Must have had about 6-8" over night.
Still, dug the Omega out and pointed it in vaguely the right direction and it got me to work with no dramas and a few entertaining tail-wagging episodes.

Yep, they are very controllable, IMHO.

Yeah - I really was truly impressed.. and snow mode keeps things very sensible when you want it, too, in the auto. Heck, the first time I spun the wheels up was pulling out onto a large roundabout this morning - the only reason I noticed was because the TC light started flashing to remind me I hadn't turned it off.. ;D ;D
I did nearly go sliding out of a tiny side road, mind, when I braked a bit too late (one of those little short cut roads that gets no traffic at all in weather like this) :-[
I think the MR2 probably stopped better (crappy tyres on the Omega doesn't help, though!) but the Omega is much easier to keep pointing straight.. although holding 20-30* of slip on the MR2 up a hill last winter was quite entertaining.. ;D

Better than a Wes... *runs off* :-X

Ahh, well, technically that was ice, not snow. ::)
-
Ahh that's different, then ;)
But yes, really very controllable - granted I was late for work, so I was more or less concentrating on 'getting there' than having fun (also it's hard to have fun on the M3 ;D ) :)
-
Yet more snow overnight & is chucking it down now, the guttering which had started to come away from the house yesterday is now laying on the floor & took a lump of the downpipe with it :'( :'(, so ive now got no guttering on two of the three sides of the house now.,,,,,,aw bugga :(
-
Well my car isn't that great in the snow, admittedly my tyres need doing and there was no weight in the back but I couldn't get up a not-very-steep hill for work the other day and had to take SWMBO's 206.
Also scared the s**t out of me when it started to lose traction coming down the hill (at walking speed) and sliding towards a bus coming the other way. Looking for something heavy to put in the boot now... ;D ;D
-
Been out and about this morning but we're starting to suffer drifts :(
The neighbour was outside for about 2 hours clearing his paths, car and a bit of road for a run up but it's already starting to disappear!
-

If no-one likes the snow may i suggest coming over to Bolton, Lancashire cos we've only had about 1/2''
Mind you the ice on the back roads means my Mig has turned into a crab. I'm sure parked vehicles have magnets attached to them!
So i've made a management decision & as i work from home i've decided not to use the car thus saving the planet & more importantly my pocket ;) :D :D

I've managed to entirely avoid it, other than the 1" we had tues (which is still 1", though once off estate, roads are clear), and about the same yesterday morning in Milton Keynes, which quickly disperced - though still took me 2.25hrs to get in :(

at last weve managed 12hrs without another snowfall hopefully getting to the old kent road later shouldnt be too much trouble just the usual friday nightmare traffic

Had another avalanche off the roof last night around the back, i had just opened the french doors to let the dogs out, i then heard a "whoosh" followed by tons of snow, i couldnt shut the door & the dogs couldnt get back in, so had to start digging with a dustpan as the spade was outside, finally managed to get the dogs in & the door shut, looked out this morning & sure enough no guttering,,,,,so its official that my house has NO GUTTERS LEFT!, ive also got a busted slate or two & a ridge tile in danger of coming down,,,,aaaaaaaaaw buuuuuuuuuuuuuugga! :( :( :(
-
just been for the customary measure-up - it's 14 inches at the front of the house and 20 at the rear.

Wife baking & icing a cake at very short notice for some little ones birthday tomorrow, needed some ribbon so asked me to run her to the town centre. Went outside, car under a foot of fresh snow, only cleared it this morning at 6.30am! :-? went to get the brush & scraper out of the boot without engaging my brain first & after a loud Whooshing sound had a boot filled to the bloody brim with the sodding stuff! >:(
Should I dial 999 & ask for help or does that only work in Chatham? ;D
-
Went out for a take-away at 1900 hrs this evening. MID showed a low of -9.5. No wind, clear sky. Roads getting really slippery in places.
The temperature is now +2.4, wind speed is averaging 14 knots from the South and the barometer is dropping through the floor. :o
Take a look here: http://www.lashamweather.co.uk/weather-data.php
I suspect there will be a thaw (or more snow?), but the roads have been subzero for over a week, so it could get a bit dicey before it gets any better.

Indeed. Got a dose of that a couple of years back. Luckily I noticed the sheen on the road. Only time I've ever seen a double decker bus going up the road with a couple of armfuls of opposite lock on. :o

Peeing down with rain here, now.. cold, but only slightly below freezing..

Raining here too not surprisingly. Gritter Lorry got stuck at the end of our close about 9pm.
