and today mps discuss what more powers we allow brussels to take from us. do we actually have any left to give
-
we voted in "new Labour", who gave these particular powers away.
..... and the report doesn't add up the costs of doing things differently.
There are two ways of looking at this, tho.
One one hand, we're a great nation to be tolerant and to look after our people.
But on the other hand, by tieing our hands behind our backs, we're demoting ourselves to the second division.
Not just a human rights issue, it's the same with Health & Safety laws, the Welfare Styate, Bribery, Minimum Wage, etc., etc.

this all smacks of the concept of a united states of europe and whilst I dont buy into the conspiracy theory of new world order it seems demonstrably obvious that there are far more disadvantaages than advantages to membership of the EU. Since when did this country need Brussels or anyone else to give it a moral compass? This country has, like all countries, a past of violence, intolerance and social injustice but we have moved on and surely dont require Brussels to legislate for us.

Yes I agree J., and this fact is becoming more apparent as time passes.
I would say in addition that there are already disturbing indicators pointing to a defacto World Government actively being sought - not necessarily by the Nations' State, but by discrete groups working to a common agenda - the desire for absolute power and influence.

They can try Zulu, but they will not succeed. Conflict unfortunately will break out first :-/ :-/

Indeed, Lizzie, just what I have been saying for a long time. However, I believe it won't be international conflict, but rather civil insurrection, as was seen prior to the collapse of the Iron Curtain and, then, in the former Yugoslavia.

If we have an EU super state we will need an EU figurehead - lets colour Europe pink!
That is the big advantages of a monarchy - no politics!
-
Yes, I think both Lizzie and Nick make important observations - whatever the geopolitical nature of the conflict I think that we can be sure that there will indeed be conflict in the near future.

Yes, in the shape of say a modern French Revolution of 1789, for obviously different reason, but still the general population being exasperated by the excesses of a few in power.
