Well this is the first time I've had an Omega in the snow and all I can say it's been fantastic in winter mode, we have a steep railway bridge just by us and we had the snow earlier in the year my Lexus LS400 did struggle up it both ways but the Omega sailed it yesterday and today I was genuinely shocked and very impressed :y :y

Thought this particular type of snow was quite grippy tbh. More grip on the Whitsun stuff than the slushy stuff, if that makes any sense at all ::)

Actually, you are right about this type of snow. It's very "dry" owing to the extremely low temperatures and, I recall, is very similar to the type of snow found in ski-resorts. It doesn't melt easily under spinning wheels and seems to give a bit more grip than the "wetter" snow we usually experience...
...I think ;) ;D

I think you are right, or at least I know what you mean.. :y not that we have much snow, only the leftovers from a couple of weeks ago, my drive is snow free.... :y :y :y

Good old snow button got me out of a few slips and slides with ease :y

what does it do?? starts in 3rd or 2nd??

starts off in 3rd, it knocks off itself above ??mph (can't remember) of if you hit the kickdown for more than a few seconds. :y
-
cool.. that helps probably.. if you would be so kind and also tell me what tc does :). it just lowers the revs of the engine??

50MPH IIRC.

Which is 50kph (hence the confusion, I guess :))

Traction Control looks to see if the drive wheels are slipping (higher rotational speed than the front wheels) and if they are it will (depending on the age of your car and engine) cut ignition to cylinders to create a misfire and lower torque output, apply the rear brakes (later models) or I presume on a diesel, back off the fuel pump (if Diesel omegas have it)

I do sort of agree but where we live there is only 16 houses in our cul de sac so the road gets very little or no traffic in this weather and out of 16 hoses only 3 of us could get out 1 is a Isuzu Trooper 4x4 the other is a Volvo Cross Country V70 and ME ;D ;D and I put my ability to do it is down to the Snow mode :y :y

Quite like my road - only 10 houses down my road (and most of them are self employed or retired, and doing nothing at this time of year) and a dozen or so on the next road out - neither road is flat and the Omega cruised up them nicely.
Certainly a heck of a lot easier than trying to nurse the MR2 with it's on/off racing clutch around last year :D

I'm sure it was more than that. If it was 30mph then it's liable to turn off and change down straight into 2nd gear.
I'll check tomorrow and report back.

I was going to say "You're wrong!" but uh..
We're wrong, you're right ;D
From the manual (2002 onwards, at least):
The winter programme is automatically switched off at speeds in excess of approx. 80km/h.

Yeah I go something right ;D
Unless a pre facelift is different. ::)

Fine for 12 miles along roads and a snow covered bypass - defeated by the slope near my house >:( >:(

Put an iron on the ironing board, it will help with the traction. ;D

me too ;D was very unnerving watching someone slide 2 cars in front of me right into a barrier at the side of the road, but the Omega did great :y i'm liking the winter mode button, but not as much as the sport one ;D

In these slippery conditions (when it's safe to do so) my favourite button is the TC button - switched to off ;D ;D ;D
