Title: Amazing Meccano model
Post by: albitz on 19 December 2010, 17:15:12
Talking of  (percieved) progress in another thread. Here is a brilliant example of a"toy" from yesteryear taken to the ultimate/ extreme.
Are todays xboxwiiplaystation electroboxes really better than this?

Brilliant stuff this Meccano Albs! :y

I had the second-largest (Set 5) in the late '60s as a Christmas present.
Far more entertaining than your modern-day Wiis and X-Boxs. ::)

I only had a tiny Meccano set :( I used to love it, though..

I did have a massive collection of Technics Lego, however, which was equally awesome.

That is one fabulous model!! :-* :-* :-* :-*

For anyone even remotely interested in heavy engineering that is soooooo fascinating 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)  For it to be based on a real, historical, crane makes it for me extra special :y :y :y :y

Great find Albs! :D :D :D :D :)

Aye, Set 5 was the 'Site Engineering Set' IIRC, and £5-12-6d seems to ring a bell :y

Dunno what size my set was but I remember the instructions to build a large crane and one of the others was an aeroplene.

Although it is a wonderful achievement to make such a thing out of a load of nuts and bolts, it does not come close to an Xbox. .  Anyone that says it does must be "an ode fart"   :P ;D :-*

Ah Daz, I may be an old F....... sorry, women do not do farts...........but how many engineers and mathematicians will Xbox produce compared to Meccano?

If many British military victories were won on the playing fields of Eton, then many British engineers were produced by Meccano ;D ;D ;D ;)
