Just came close to having a head on crash, no fault of mine just in the wrong place at the wrong time. An old timer pulled out of a T junction I was approaching, I was indicating to turn right and the old timer thought he had time to go but unfortunately the 4X4 coming the other way was travelling way to fast. Luckily I could see what was going to happen so I hit my brakes and stopped, unfortunately the 4x4 driver wasn't so alert and hadn't noticed the car pulling out from the juction until last minute, when he swerved onto my side of the road, clipped the front of the car pulling out and was heading for me. He missed me by millimeters and then eventually stopped 20 meters up the road. The poor old bloke was unhurt but shaking like a leaf so after the names and addresses were exchanged and I told the 4x4 driver I thought he'd have had enough time to avoid the accident if he'd have been paying attention, I followed the old timer home to make sure he got back ok. Time to change my undies now ;D

Speeders in those circumstances - irrespective of the vehicle they're driving - should in my view be beaten shitless.

I've been unlucky and been involved in a car accident some years ago, becides your chest pumping away at the time, it feels good to walk away from the accident ;)

Must be the adrenaline buzz ;D. Or that I used to drive a bit quick :-[. But as you say, always good to walk away from the biggies...

My only head on (off the banger track, different ball game) was in a 1380 cc Mini on my favourite B road resulting in the steering column in my teeth due to me not softening the new rear colways up before "having it". The back skipped a little further than usual. If nothing had been coming the other way fine but there was. I hit him @ about 80mph but took the impact & bounced into a field. He was'nt hurt & my 3rd party ins paid for his car. If i was'nt harnessed in (i was skinny back then!) & the car was'nt fully caged i'd have been mincemeat.
Good on you Pete for looking after the old boy.
As for 4x4 's i think we'd all like one at the moment as they come into thier own in such conditions. However for the rest of the year they are not a vehicle to travel too fast in as they are top heavy with loads of wallowy suspension so won't change direction /brake quickly from speed.

Must be the adrenaline buzz ;D. Or that I used to drive a bit quick :-[. But as you say, always good to walk away from the biggies...
Wish i knew that when your were kicking 130+ out of the Beastie... under clinical supervision of course, nuff said!!! ;D

Glad to hear that no one was hurt Pete. On the subject of 4x4's one thing I have noticed in the icy road conditions is that some drivers of them don't make allowances for the way that people driving two wheel drive have to drive and it really p1sses me off >:(

As much as I detest the Omega manual box, a manual Omega on song does thrill me :y

I've only had one 'bump' just after I passed my test. I didn’t stop in time at a roundabout, and ran into the rear axle of an arctic truck! (woops!).
Managed to blow out one of the lorry’s rear tires (my car was still moving forwards at this point), so the T bar on the back of the lorry decided it would fight back and proceeded rip off all the front end of the car and fold the bonnet through the windscreen ::) Poor old Escort
Thankfully nobody was hurt by it.
I soon learnt to increase my stopping distances!
Dont think I've ever hit anything in the Omega :-X
