Title: nanny
Post by: tidla on 08 January 2011, 21:05:41
for over one hundred years, milk has been delivered to the door of customers all over the uk.

now in 2011, someone has decided that on the foil of the milk bottle lid the use by date should be embossed.

thank you dairy crest. how did we manage?

the local wilko store and others will only allow a maximum of 3 paracetamol type products for each customer.

is that just in case the shopping experience becomes so overwhelming we decide to top ourselves in the queue?

It`s ironic that the same stores would allow unlimited purchase of (a certain combustible product) which would be an assuredly-lethal and rapid means of inducing self-demise. :-X

 ....

many many years ago there was a letter embossed on the foil to denote the day, too long ago now for me to remember what letter was what day.
Up till last year we used to have green top milk ('raw' milk straight from the cow ie not a silver topped pasturised) delivered to the door, but because it's already been banned in Scotland due to the EU Nanny State, my milk man made the decision to stop delivering it before he was told to.

you talking about red top of the kind you get at Tesco/Asda etc That's fully skimmed p***water homogenised milk same as the blue top full fat & green semi-skimmed, again both are homogenised.
The green I'm taking about is, as I say, straight from the cow, like the Jersey Gold top is and isn't messed about with.  :y

Was long before Tesco ever existed, there was always, in bottles from the milkman, Red, Silver or Gold top, delivered by the milk man, along with orange juice.  I have never seen Green Top ::) ::)

Sorry Mike, I can't say I've ever heard of or seen red top.
Having Googled it though   ;) it was full fat but homgenised.   :y
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milk_bottle_top

Glass bottlesGold foil - milk from Channel Island (Jersey/Guernsey) breeds (about 5.2% fat)[1]
Silver foil - whole milk (about 4% fat - minimum 3.5%)
Red foil - Homogenised whole milk
Red and silver striped foil - semi-skimmed milk (less than 2% fat)
Blue and silver checkered foil - skimmed milk (0.1 to 0.3% fat)
Green foil - raw (unpasteurized) milk, giving rise to the name "green-top milk"
Gold striped foil on a green background - unpasteurized milk from Channel Island breeds[2]

many many years ago there was a letter embossed on the foil to denote the day, too long ago now for me to remember what letter was what day.
Up till last year we used to have green top milk ('raw' milk straight from the cow ie not a silver topped pasturised) delivered to the door, but because it's already been banned in Scotland due to the EU Nanny State, my milk man made the decision to stop delivering it before he was told to.

Not forgetting Red Top and good old full fat Gold Top :y :y
