Title: Fuddled dell lap top.
Post by: feeutfo on 12 January 2011, 19:43:21
Hers, pick it up the wrong way, for instance with one hand, thumb on top by side of touch pad, fingers underneath, lid open, on the hard drive side of the machine, and it sends the image on the screen loopy and is unrecoverable, it locks up and has to be re started. Then it's fine, except it happened in the middle of accessing an on line password for a customers tax return, which is a one off deal, and now lost.  >:(

Anyway, I guess the twisting action on the chassis of the lap top has wrenched a connection and fritzed it. Hard drive connection perhaps?

Dell inspiron 510    ....good old Dell.   :-X

Could be a million things. Memory needs reseating. CPU needs reseating, HDD needs reseating.

Does it BSOD, or just lock up, or keep working (ie, mouse still moves) but otherwise unusable?

Seems it crashes, ctrl alt delete has no effect, no sign of mouse movement while peering through the jumbled blocks of image, only thing that responds is the off button. :(

Sounds suspiciously like a video card crash. Is it discete video, or integrated into Northbridge/MCH?

Possibly worth reseating display cable (normally under keyboard), but I'm not hopeful :(

It has been apart several times, Dell send a man with screw driver to your house to repair bits on your dining room table. x3 iirc...
