Title: Bathroom DIY sourcing advice.
Post by: Martin_1962 on 16 January 2011, 15:12:29
Our downstairs loo and our bathroom are looking very tatty so time to redo them.

Firstly I cannot find any colour except public toilet white for loos and stuff.

We want blue downstairs and aqua (blue green) upstairs.

Secondly tiles

Where can we buy nice tiles from with a nautical theme, eg boats, lighthouses, dolphins ect.

Thanks

Martin

White and chrome  :y

Tiles white with either a silver border tile or random silver patterned tiles.....to break up the white tiles.
Chrome finishing on the tile edges.....
Chrome taps/rad etc ....
Build a shower cubilce out of clear glass blocks with random blue glass blocks and chrome door
Finish off with blue glass tiles (non slip) on the floor.

I actually did this in one house i owned......looked great in the end... :y altho cost a small fortune building the glass block wall.....as the builder had to reinforce the floor to take the weight (it had floorboards originally).....so you can skip this idea if you like  :D

Fitted with 3bar power shower and jacuzzi bath....another idea to skip if you like.... ;D

Are you stuck in the seventies man? you wont find a coloured suite anywhere now unless its secondhand.
White is where its at, and quite rightly so :y

White is too cold a colour, currently our tatty ones are apricotish, prefer a more blue one. white is also too public toilet.

Nothing wrong with the 70s either

Anybody who buys a coloured bathroom suite these days wants thier head looking at!

Deffo white, the warmth comes from your tiles and decor.....and a white suit lets you change the look and feel without the further expense iof changing the suite again.

See the houses round here built with that chucking em out whenever the 'old people' move on, want me to have a word next one I see?

I vaguely recall some 'tasteful' yellow ones in our house in the 70s. Matched the bright yellow kitchen.

Martin Imber - if you want a 1970s suite, have a chinwag with local property developers who renovate old houses by ripping out those awful, tasteless coloured suites during the modernisation of them. I'm sure they would be glad not to have to pay business rates for rubble :y

 ::) I must`ve been born to clean!....
......I keep reading the title as: "Bathroom DIY scouring advice" ;D

Not so keen on coloured suites though; my friend has an one, that I can only describe as 'poo brown'......although he tells me it was sold as 'chocolate brown' (I think knowing that makes it seem even worse!) :o

You could get coloured suites in the 1990s we had one in our first house, but can't remember the colour, current 1999 house has a peach coloured suite.

I think I remember seeing an Avocado suite dumpeddiscretely placed behind the shed when we moved in here 7 years ago Martin, I shall go and hack my way through the scrub & have a look to see if it's still there & get back to you if you're interested? ;) ::)

Avocado  8-) Nice.

Shame. I think my brother has just chucked out a nice pink 1970's suite. :D

Why the hell didn't you say, just lobbed our flamingo pink suite down the tip. There was aaaaall sorts down there. Could have picked up anything you like except white.

See "civic amenity site Reading" they have it all.   ;D

Mainly because they are regarded as very unfashionable these days. White & Grey are the "in" colours and minimalist is the "in" concept. ;)

.....

As you've discovered by the lack of coloured suites in bathroom show rooms you're very much in the minority.
Our main bathroom was done pergamon which is very slightly off white.
I found this site though  ;) ...... http://www.plumbprice.com/bathrooms/DISC%20COLS/Discontinued%20Colour%20Information.html It might be of use  :-/

Makes it worse... ::) ::) ::)  I fitted my bathroom out with a dark blue suite in 1980, looked great.....till you turned a tap on, you could not keep it clean unless you polished every time you used the sink or bath, bad move..... :D :D :D

On a serious note, there are companies (1) who buy white suites and then re-enamel them or apply a further glaze over the top of the them to get any (hideous) colour you may want.

Well I think we would want a sea green / blue.

The original stuff looks tatty and the tiles look yuk.

May just have to go for white but it looks so cold.

Me Mum told me to be careful about people I meet on the Internet, starts out as a friendly chat, a few favours and words of advice then a meeting in public places such as oxford and wim and Ashridge, next I'll be invited over under the guise of fitting LPG and a Curry.  :-/

You should see some of the pm's he's sent me!   Can't leave me alone.
