IIRC 4 and 5 are earth.  One is a chassis ground, and the other is a signal ground, but they have the same effect.

There is no such thing as 'Earth' on a car only 0V which can almost (but still not truely correctly) be called Chassis ground.....

On the Pre OBDII capable Vx cars, both 5 and 4 or 0V.....

Makes no difference at all, assuming both have decent 0v connections.

There is if you have one of those anti-static things on the back or if its up on stands or a jack or if its just driven through a muddy field. So there! Mr P Dantic
