Title: Johnson gone.
Post by: albitz on 20 January 2011, 18:41:34
Alan Johnson - the only human being on the Labour front bench has resigned, "for personal and family reasons".The standard excuse.
He was utterly inept as shadow chancellor, but was the human face of the current crop, none of whom have actually spent any time living in the real world outside Westminster.
Lets hope it opens some nice big wounds and they start in internal civil war over who gets what job. :)

Apparently Ed Balls - stark staring lunatic - has replaced him. Balls wanted that job soooo badly. My guess is that he has forced Johnson out.
Balls was Browns right hand man at the treasury for years, so we know how good he is on economic matters. :o ::) :D

by all accounts (friends on both sides of the house) its a genuine and private reason - so i wish him well, others may do well to do the same instead of jumping to conclusions  :o

yep 99 times out of 100 I'd agree Albs - its always a smokescreen - not this time tho, for one the timing makes no sense, for two Wd Milliband and Ed Balls dont exactly sing from the same hymn sheet and for three no ones casting aspersions from the coalition  :o

I doubt it'll rip the Lbour party apart, he's far more interested in getting his teeth into that preening poppinjay Gideon  :y

Well said mate....none of them live in the real world and every single one of them would look you straight in the eyes and lie to you without giving it a second thought.

As for that posh Shit-head David Cameron.....did you know that he purchased a newspaper for 20p and he charged taxpayers for it.

The greedy Tosser auctually put it down on expenses....with the salary he must be on and he made the hard up taxpayer pay for his paper.

I can't remember her name...but a Labour M.P charged taxpayers for a bar of chocalate that she bought......Bitch!!!  >:( >:(

I quite liked Alan Johnson, although I really didn't understand why he got given the Shadow Chancellor brief. There were a few times when I think he wondered the same thing.  But he has gone, and now the front bench has shuffled to give Balls his number two fantasy job.  Should be some interesting exchanges ahead with Osborne and don't rule out a few little gems coming out regarding Balls' time when working in the Treasury.

1. He probably didnt want to be shadow chancellor in the first place, and has seriously embarrassed himself several times recently.
2.Keep your friends close, enemies closer. Ed would have caused a war in the party if he hadnt been "chosen" to replace him.
3. The coalition will be contentrating as much on attacking Balls at least as much as Labour  are concentrating on Osborne.

Time will tell. ;)

Yep, he is known as the son of Gordon. He was his right hand man when Gordon was wrecking the economy. A Brownite through and through, and Red Ed has just recently admitted that at least some of the damage was caused by their policies in Govt. Probably because it would take so much of his energy in the future to try to keep denying something which is quite easily demonstrated to be true. :y

Oh dear.  Oh deary deary dear.

Seems Alan Johnson has been doing a Prescott and been caught out.

And apparently, which individual has had his minions digging away at the rumour with the result it will soon be splashed in the papers?  Step forward... Ed Balls!

Ooooh, this could get very interesting over the next few days........

Bear with me please, i may have this wrong but from what i heard on the radio today he was given that job as he'd tried pretty much everything else & the only other option was the gaffers wife. He admitted he was'nt right for said post & could'nt answer the standard rate of N.I.??
Seems this is the end of his career in frontline politics.

I may have got it right first time then. Had to happen sometime. :D
If this is the case, its a Brownite coup, and Red Ed will be the next target, when the time is right. They dont want little Ed moving the party away from the policies which "were brilliantly succesful" for so long. ::)

While you are absolutely right Guy. Complete and utter incompetence alone doesnt usually spell the end of a political career nowadays. The Commons would be virtually empty if it did. ;) ;D

Reports suggest that Johnsons bodyguard has recently had an affair with Johnsons wife and has been suspended from duty.
Balls faction have leaked it to damage him and make his position untennable. This has allowed Balls to put Miliband in an impossible position, where he darent deny him the shadow chancellorship twice in a few months. It would almost certainly have resulted in a bloodbath.
This could very well turn out to be Blair/Brown mk2.
Heres hoping. :)

If that's correct then I have great admiration for the bloke in quitting his post.  History doesn't hold a good record of success but the intent is there.
I wish him well.  It sounds as if he was not tarred with the same brush as most others in parliament.

That's a question you could have asked at almost any point over the last 50-odd years, although with Blair's hollow promise to make Government purer than pure - and then promptly presided over a ridiculous number of scandals - it's become more acute in the last decade or so.

I would prefer to see the positions held by previously by the likes of Ingram, Campbell, McBride (a stand-out for true nastiness) and Coulson banished to be honest.  Government should take a really long hard look at how it meshes with the media and put a stop to what has become a highly mistrusted and cynical process that the public simply doesn't care for.  But that would mean taking hard decisions a little too close to home and there is not a single individual in the Commons prepared to do that.  Especially not the opposition, who have their hands soaked in the blood of previous deviances and continue to indulge in them.

On that point, the story behind Johnson resigning and how it got into press hands allegedly via Balls' cabal is plain disgusting.  I had little time for that odious creep before, but if he is prepared to throw party colleagues to the wolves for the sake of his own ambitions then he deserves a truly awful ending to his blatently self-promoted career.  I hope it comes soon and is suitably humiliating, swiftly followed by that arch-proponent of bare-faced lies Mandleson.  In fact, the mortgage cheater may have to face some tricky questions anyway over the very cosy relationship he enjoys with Lazards, who were involved with the Kraft buy-out of Cadbury's while he was Business Secretary.

Very nicely put indeed Bluey. Well spotted about Mandy, although he is more slippery than a snake in tub of grease, so I doubt he will get his just desserts.
Have you watched The thick of it and In the loop ?
Although, far from being a documentary, it does I believe, give a hilarious insight how these creatures may behave behind closed doors.

Coulson - being a spin doctor - picked a good day to jump. Johnson resigned last night, Bliar back at the enquiry this morning. A good day to water down the effect of bad news for Cameron. ;)

I was a TTOI since the first episode, it follows on from enjoying stuff like Bird & Fortune, Private Eye and so on.  According to a couple of friends in a certain monolithic media organisation it had nuggets and behaviour types in it that were not far from reality too.

I really don't think Peter Capaldi at his uproarous best is quite suitable here (he can make my Thai ladyboy joke look like something from a Janet & John book) so a clip of Bird & Fortune is much nicer.
