Title: I learned to drive in one of these!
Post by: Amigo on 21 January 2011, 20:42:36
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/THAMES-TRUCK-15CWT-1-OWNER-/320644892001?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item4aa7ecc561
It was a mini bus version with bench seats & windows in the back. I was 10 years old & it was our cub/scouts van. My Dad was a leader & we had to tow start it on our own one saturday morning.
He had me reversing around tyres using my mirrors.

The very first vehicle i ever drove!  NOSTALGIA!!!! 8-)

Me too Andy. I had a 2 door 1300 GT in blue :-VTW869L. To those who knock the x-flow engines this little baby would wheelspin changing from first to second on a dry road & the grin factor was unbeatable, a really involving drive.

Makes being old worthwhile!!! 8-) :y

My 1800 Vectra does this when I try to hurry it up ::)

Stupid wrong wheel drive >:(

Learnt to drive in a citreon AX, then spent a month driving round Scotland in my dad's Sierra. Took first test in a maestro. >:(
If I ever meet the git that designed it, I'll shake him very firmly by the neck. :-X

Passed my test in one of these little powerhouses. ;D

Brand new in 1985, after taking most of my lessons in a Golf the instructor changed his car just before my test.

First vehicle I ever drove looked more like this though.

Think I was all of 8 years old. The elf and safetee brigade would have a fit these days.

I learnt the basics during my school days in an old Morris 1000 Traveller chasing Bullocks around a field owned by my mates Dad.  Proper driving lessons were in a Mini 1000 Clubman (One with the rectangular front) and more on road practice in the girlfriend’s Mother’s Hillman Imp, with the totally useless heater. ;D ;D

Exactly same colour, GTB 660B was reg.

It had no synchro on 2nd so you had to really get a feel for double declutch. Passed test first time
