Title: Aloo Gobi.
Post by: Amigo on 24 January 2011, 21:00:19
2 spuds & a small cauliflower needed using up. Par boiled the veggies in turmeric water & let them cool. Fried off onions, chillies & garlic with a squirt of tomato puree an oxo & the requisite spices to make sauce, stirred in said veggies, warmed through with a splash of water.
Indian side dish (Bombay Potatoes with cauliflower).

   Cheap, easy to cook & healthy...YUM! 8-)

That does sound good..

I just browned some sausages, onions, a red pepper and garlic, popped them in the bottom of the slow cooker with some carrots, celery, mushrooms, mange tout, tinned toms, stock cube, Italian herbs, salt, pepper and a little marmite. I'm hoping what I end up with tomorrow is a nice casserole.

I'm concerned that what I'll end up with will be inedible swill  ;D

If the texture declines into swill you have made a soup or broth. Serve in bowls, sprinkle with grated cheddar & smear crusty bread with butter, dip & enjoy. Nothing is ever lost unless you over salt it.
   It's not burnt it's caramalized!!! :y

:y I'm hoping the sausages stay in lumps (they're chopped up) - because they looked gorgeous browning in the pan.. I'm drooling just thinking about them!

Webby - damn, HP sauce.. something else to add to the shopping list along with the rooster sauce :)

I have that - it's good stuff :)

However.. &^%$ *^!&*@£% *&!^@ I left for work this morning and forgot to put the damned slow cooker on! :(

Wonder if it'll all still be OK tomorrow morning or if I'll just have a chilled bowl of festering food.

;D ;D ;D Priceless - although you're right to be concerned, depends on the ambient temperature of your kitchen I suppose.

It warrants a good old sniff all the same before using it (although the acidity of the tomatoes may help to delay any decline into bowel-wrenching qualities) and I would cook it off in the oven immediately you get home.

Ah it's been in the fridge all night.. which is where it remains, sadly! So it's been at a frigid ~0C since 10pm last night.

I would happily enjoy it with some good quality bread and a glass of nice heavy red upon getting home in that case. :-* :-* 8-) :y

The casserole was a success! Well, sort of.. I came home at lunchtime as I was feeling quite out of sorts (read: bloody awful) - but at least that gave me a chance to stick the slow cooker on!

6hrs later and what came out was not exactly what I'd call a casserole, but that's because it contained tinned toms and not. .. whatever the heck you make a casserole out of. Anyway, quite tasty with some steamed baby corn, sugar snap peas, spinach and home made chilli potato wedges. Oh, and some Reggae Reggae sauce.

How I just need to find some containers to freeze all the leftovers! :)
