Firstly my card has arrived, thanks to those who advised me.
Secondly my Globetrotter has a faulty 5th wheel with way too much play where there should'nt be any so despite it going soon it's having new jaws fitted tomorrow, (much cheaper than losing the trailer.) The driver of one of the "new" 55 plate renaults is off so i did a few local shunts in it this afternoon. I played briefly with the semi auto but mostly left it in fully auto mode. It's not like an auto car. There is no drive, 123 etc, just 6 speeds with a split so 12. You can leave it in gear with the airbrake off & it won't creep forward, you have to feather the throttle. When it changes gear it revs the engine as if you were double de clutching a crash box. Tomorrow i've got another couple of local shunts then an empty box to load @ Leicester so a good run up & down the A46 to adjust to it a little more for when i get mine.
Only thing i can't find is the c/c. !!!! ::) :)

Really? Surprised at that. When I got my Brand New 04 plate Foden (only a skip ;lorry but the Ro-Ro was the same, just had more gears and more axles ::)) it came with A/C, C/C with adjustable limiter, and most of the other toys you'd like with a lorry :y :y

I need to send off for mine, it's been just over 4 1/2 years since I clocked up any tacho time and I don't want my class 1 dropping off my license! A bit of weekend agency work coming up I feel :y

Always handy to have just in case. You can always turn a coin with a class 1. My digi card has the same photo as my driving licence after spending a fiver on new photos. The 5 plate i've been driving is'nt mine & is still paper card.
My lovely but totally Daffy ducked V reg Globetrotter's tax expires end of feb, so i've yet to see. :y

My last unit working for DFDS was an FH16 XXL gobstopper. Absolutely stunning drive with the 680 V8 and triple split 7. Pulled like a train. I miss that old beast :(

Off topic but picking the brains of "those who know"..
I have both LGV and PSV licences, obtained as part of my "resettlement" from the RAF 3 years ago and never used "in anger" ...
I've been told .. but have no idea if it is true or not that I cannot apply for a digi-card and will not be allowed to renew as I have not done some unknown number of hours per year or done some "CPC" course at some college or other.
Now the licences were only obtained as a) the RAF paid for them, b) I needed something to pass the time c) I thought that if things got desperate they could be usefull as an earner.
I'n certainly not going to hire a truck/bus just to do some arbitrary number of hours driving, nor am I going to college for the sake of it, I'd sooner just let them drop....
but the point is .. what is the truth as against what I'm being told "in the pub" ???
I know, I really should do some research into it .. but it's not high on the list of priorities TBH .. :)
Anyone able to give a short, and accurate, answer ?? .. :)
Ta in advance :)

In short E, it sounds right. I know I'll be losing my entitlement as I haven't done a "Driver's CPC"

Similar here, now I understood that hours on psv went out years ago, but have recently been told that all bus drivers will have to undergo a cpc course of 40 hours or thereabouts... :-/ :-/
Not aware of restrictions on hgv perhaps others will know better...

Is this for hgv or psv?

Both I think, but certainly HGV

Oh well, I have been reliably informed that I will need one for my psv, so looks like both will go.. ::) ::)
Any idea when the new rules come in?

Think they're already in re the CPC. :-/
Digicards are only applicable to vehicles under 5 years old I think :-/

Actually, thinking about this it stinks, If ever I have needed extra money I would do some driving, also part time coach driving was part of my semi retirement plan..... >:(

Evening all. I found the c/c on the Renault yesterday, it does'nt work with the air brake on?????(Gay). My old Gobstopper is'nt the beast Wellungs was (i wish) but it is CD spec with half leather, wood dash etc. In fact i'm in it as we speak parked up @ Lutterworth.
Regarding the NVQ/CPC yes those of you who don't do it will lose your licences i'm afraid, i think by september but don't take my word for it. It's not just a case of driving for a day like i used to be but you have to attend so many ongoing hours per year towards it. It's up to you although i think it's unfair. Guy. :(

This CPC thing is a load of guff! Why should we have to pay to prove we are capable of driving large vehicles? Most of us have already done that, by paying to put ourselves through the test, which meant taking lessons, even those of us who have been given their license through their work, had to take the same lessons. Just another gubment money making scheme! Just the same as having to pay to get a digi card. I have been driving for 25 years, so if I cant drive at least half decently by now then they have a point, but why cant they give guys (and galls, just to keep the pc brigade happy, lol) with 15 years or more grandfather rights to this CPC guff? We all have to have this or we risk losing our HGV/PSV entitelment, and remember to hold either of these licenses is a priviledge and can be revoked at any time if the Traffic Commisioner says so. To the guys that asked about any amount of driving time needed, no you dont have to put in a minimum amount of time per year, it is only the CPC course you will need to get to keep your license.
News just in..... Just spoke with a mate who had just got out of Stafford, pulled in there tonight by VOSA, checked his digi card and gave him a stern lecture about overspeeds on his card, so watch out folks, there out to get us for anything it seems! Also, while I'm having a rant, lol, have any of you heard of anyone getting done by VOSA for not having their trailer legs fully wound up? I had heard about it but just thought it was rumours when I first heard about it about six months ago, since then I have met three people who have been done for it! So beware, and yet another gubment money making scheme rears its ugly head lol!

eeek!!!
ok returning in feb to renew me lgv licence, have searched the dlva website and can find nothing about the need to have cpc yet? some "rumours" suggest its not in till september this year?
surely if you needed it it would be on gov website for dlva?
got me medical booked and me flight booked hoping for a quick turnaround, anyone know the definitive answer?
-
cpc
you have to get this by 2014 else you cant drive for hire or reward eg being paid for your job.it consists of 35 hours of training mostley classroom.if you have hgv and psv you only need one cpc.
once you have it you also have to renew it every 5 years
do not get confused with the cpc transport managers ticket they are 2 diffrent things.
you do not have to have driven any hours on your hgv/psv to renew it.i have just done mine all you need is to have a medical if you old like me and pay 80 pounds for the privilage.
i think this cpc thing came in from europe.

excuse me for sounding thick but does this also cover grandad rights on 7.5 tons as well??? i`ve not got a hgv licence but i may at some stage want to go back to driving 7.5`s to earn some extra dosh.... :-/

about 10 years ago i was near dover going to catch the ferry, when a artic coming out of the docks had forgotten to wind his wheels up.they bounced across the carrigeway jumped the crash barrier hit my 3 seriers bmw bounced onto the bonnet through the windscreen and out the back window, i lost control of the car and crashed into the barrier.if anyone had been in the passenger seat they would have been dead.
so i dont have any proplems with drivers getting done for this.

Glad to hear you survived r1, thats scary! Totally agree with you on getting done in that respect, but what VOSA are doing now is a £30 fine for each full turn of the handle to get the legs up fully, one of the guys I met got a £90 fine (3 turns on handle) and another got £120!

i got stopped by tosa in my old erf ec 14 for a dull headlamp and an inop speedlimiter.got done £100 for the light and a warning for the limiter.they wanted to do me for speeding but as me charts were from when i was in spain and they stopped me 100 yards outa portsmouth docks they couldnt do me.im doin my driver cpc next mth.cant see why ive got to do it as ive got an internatioal cpc being an owner driver

It does all seem another typical case of over enthusiastic eu trash we could all do without. Not only as a money spinner but also to invent "non jobs" for those with no real skills themselves who attend a course watch a video & are suddenly "experts" with an over inflated sense of self importance.
It has to stop somewhere though. As some of you know the hours are long & unsociable & the pay is'nt all that. It's getting harder & more expensive to get a licence & once you have those in the know? ::) who should get real jobs continue to make life even more difficult & costly to the driver & his/her Gaffer.
No wonder youngsters don't want to come into the trade. :(
